Increasing Heating System Pressure Problem.

    Hi all,

I am trying to bleed upstairs radiators and increase the pressure in my heating system, however when i turn the black plastic tap on the valve in the hot press nothing happens.

Previously i would unscrew this tap and then water would start to enter the system, but now for some reason nothing happens. If i screw it out too far water starts to drop from the bottom of it.

I have fiddled with the phillips screw underneath but yet again water will only drip out from the bottom of it. I suspect that is a bad thing?

I cant post pictures but here is a link to imgur (remove spaces) - http: // imgur.com/a/bQIJ6

Is there anything i can do to get the valve to work and increase the system pressure?

    Thanks in Advance!

You may have accidentally lowered the pressure setting on that valve. They can be adjusted to allow a maximum pressure. You may have set that to less than 0.1 bar for all you know.

    Hi, Thanks for the reply,

Is that done using the flat spring screw on the top of the valve? I don't recall doing anything else to that valve other than refilling the system so i thought maybe the plastic cap wasn't gripping whatever metal fitting is underneath..

Is there anything i can try that wont result in me breaking it?

There is usually a + and - sign on the pressure adjuster.
(I am making some assumptions about your setup, so be careful )
Turn on the knurled black knob. Now slowly turn the adjusting side towards the + while watching for a rise on your pressure gauge. Stop at 1 bar and turn off your knurled knob.
If you are not careful when doing this you can activate the pressure relief valve. These sometimes do not re seal.
If not comfortable doing this get a plumber. There may be other problems.

Not sure if you were able to see the pictures, but there's no + or - signs on the valve, so logically speaking if I turn the pressure adjuster screw clockwise should that increase its 'limit'?

If so i will give it a try tomorrow. I normally bleed and refill the system once or twice a year and this is the first problem I've had with it. Was hoping for a simple fix.

    Thanks again!

I think there is a cover missing off your adjusting side of the valve, however it is usually clockwise to increase.

Ah ok, that doesn't surprise me. I will give it a shot tomorrow. Thanks for the help!
