Removing stippling from ceiling

Anyone any idea how much it costs to remove stippling from a ceiling?
We have it upstairs in four bedrooms, bathroom and landing. Probably not something we should attempt ourselves so we're wondering what kind of ballpark figure we should budget for it.

It's not much use in terms of cost estimate for you, but I scraped off the some of the stripling and painted the ceiling with thistlebond. A plaster came and plastered the ceiling. Sorry, but I cant remember the price he charged.

Stippling is not the type of thing you "remove". Id say that would be v labour intensive. and you wouldnt know what you'd end up with at the end.

For an easier to predict result you want to either
1.plaster straight over it - some people/plasterers dont like this because the plaster isnt guranteed to stay on.
    2. Better option IMO is to slab over existing and skim the new plasterboard. Thats what i got done.
(but you will find people who had no probs with first option)

I got all the ceilings in my house done about 3 yrs ago plus the hall and landing walls for close to 2 grand if i rem correctly. House is a ~90 sqm 3 bed semi and im in south dub.
It was a friend of a friend... not sure if he was doing me a favor - there were 2 plasterrs and a labourer - took them about 4 days and i dont think they were always full days.

I was steaming wall paper off in one of the rooms before with the door closed and notice how soft the stippling was and managed to use a scraper to remove it with great ease. you could try steaming it to soften it and then scraping it.

    You can't leave it there....

What was the result? What finishing did you do after scraping? Was it nearly smooth?

I was going to scrape mine - tried about a metre and got cold feet and ended up getting a plasterer.

it ended up really well smooth and was able to roll on ceiling paint.

We had it in our newly purchased house and wanted it gone but the ceilings were bowed so had to come down instead. Original quote from a plasterer was €1200 to plaster all the rooms and halls etc, three bed semi.

    Hmm thanks!
Feels like a lot of money to spend on something like this but if we don't get it done it'll probably annoy us for ever more.

Ya that's what we thought too,in one way we were lucky we had to pull down the ceilings and put up new boards altogether, got help from family and friends so the cost was hugely minimised. The difference in the newly painted sitting room is massive now.
