Hi Looking to get a bike fit, to make sure there is no damage being caused to my bad knee. Not interested in speed, etc, just being able to continue to get out on my road bike for around 2hrs and not put any extra stress on my knee through not sitting on the bike correctly. I am in Naas. I don't mind traveling to someone if people think they might be suitable for me. Thanks

Thanks for the reply...yes, this man is first on my list. As I said, all I want is to make sure I am not doing any damage to my sore knee, and continue to cycle for years to come. I am in my 50s, and have football years ago to thank for my knee. It is not too bad, and I want to keep it that way.

I can second Aidan Hammond, I had a fit just before Christmas and he was fantastic. I have a very dodgy body and everything was taken into account and examined. Can't recommend him highly enough.

Depending on your physiology, a Retul fit might be worth considering. It involves sensors being attached to your hips, knees, and ankles so that the fitter can accurately measure the degree to which your knees are moving off line, etc. The aim is a more efficient pedalling style rather than comfort as such but, in theory at least, one leads to another - that's where your physiology comes into it though, lingering injuries or issues might drive those two apart.

Having said that, the quality of the fitter trumps the tools they use though, in my opinion, so I'd go for someone that comes highly recommended over one that I knew nothing about other than that they come equipped with high tech tools.

For what it's worth, I've never used Aidan Hammond myself but I've heard very good things about him.

Aidan did some of that with me when I went to see him, he has two fits, one which does this and one which doesn't. I know nothing about retul fitting though, so what I had done maybe wasn't as detailed as a retul one. There were sensors and a camera though. Which highlighted my crappy knees nicely!

I had the Retul fit done last year in the Bike Fit Studio and it was well worth it. Eliminated knee and back pains I was getting on the bike and pretty much got rid of leg cramps too. I'm not saying everyone will get as much from it but it definitely worked for me.

Another recommendation for Aidan Hammond, apart from setting a few bikes up perfectly for me he spotted a physio issue I had and advised me to do certain exercises to eliminate any issues, naturally I ignored this advise and only remembered the issue when it was brought up during treatment for a torn achilles last year. Long story short he's an excellent fitter, but listen to anything else he tells you as well!

An other shout for Aidan Hammond from me, he is a physio by trade so sounds ideal for what the op wants.

+1 or is that 10? for Aidan... Went to him around this time last year.
    Top man...very relaxed environment etc.

He is a physical therapist IIRC (a little different to a physio)... and he measures all the "hinge points" of your body related to cycling/cycling comfort...checks your alignment and measures your flexibility, plus a whole host of other stuff.

Then puts you on the bike...i had the "lower" level bike fit done and he had the lasers on my knees, cameras on me etc etc.

    Id recommend him highly.
    Marty.

I went to aidan, and the difference to my knee after a short spin in the saddle was huge. best 100 quid I spent when it came to bike related stuff

edit : oh yea, and my knee was one of the main reasons I went to him

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like Aidan is the way for me to go. He seems to seen plenty of problems like mine. I am looking for someone who 'has seen it all before'. I will contact him and get checked in the next few weeks. As always on Boards, so much good advice and knowledge, particularly on this forum. And people willing to share it.

I think I had to wait a few months to get an appointment.... So ring soon.

Mind you, now I think about it, I saw him in height of summer, so maybe he won't be as busy now

I got an appointment within a week, I arranged it there in December, with an appointment before Christmas. A friend had a 6 week wait in July, so it mightn't be too long…or it might!!
