Tax Return on BTL property purchased in 2015

I bought a property this year for BTL. I had to get a mortgage for it. It needed refurbishment and new appliances etc. The property is rented through one of the government schemes. Its registered.

I'm aware that I can 'write-off' some of the expenses and costs/mortgage on the property. Can someone give an example of where this advice can be found and how this process is completed. I find the government sites aren't that user friendly so any other locations would be useful.

There is a revenue booklet. It is basically what you need to know.

I fear that you will not be able to claim some of the items you describe because they arose before the first letting. You can claim them in relation to capital gains tax when you sell.

(But it makes sense to get professional advice, especially for your first return.)
