I am looking at buying a Peugeot, have never owned one before so I would like to hear from Peugeot owners on your experience owning a Peugeot.

they vary wildly. their late 90's stuff was good. their mid 00's stuff was a bit of a disaster. not sure if they're coming good again at the moment or not.

what specific car are you looking at?

What specific model and year are you looking at. As it stands your question is too vague to give a definitive answer as it covers a wide spectrum of cars made by Peugeot. Peugeot have made some great cars over the years but they have also made some donkeys. You need to be more specific.

They've made some ok cars and some poor cars. In general they are average enough and a bit flimsy imo. I can't recall them making a truly great car in terms of reliability and build.

In the old days (20+years ago) they were praised for their driving dynamics and handling, along with good styling. However since the early 2000's the "drive of your life" (that they market their cars with) has been lost. The newer cars just don't drive or handle as well as their older cars(the 307 is an example of this). The Styling isn't the best on the newer cars either, however their latest cars seem to be a definite improvement in this area.

I've had several D8 406's. D-Turbos. They are an absolute king of a car. Cheap, simple, reliable, comfy, easy on diesel and capable of Mega miles, but do suffer from stupid silly things like patchy rust and fiddly plastic fittings under the bonnet. No torsion bars or rack problems or rotting turrets that plagued the 405. Electrics are spot on and give no trouble on ones that havent been messed with. They are old now and a rare sight. The D9's are where the rot set in with BSI nonsense

Don't think much of Peugeots in general but the D8 406 is an absolutely fantastic machine

You may as well ask 'what are women like in general?'

    There is a huge variety.

They are a mixed bag in terms of looks but generally not too bad.

In fairness, they are medium to low maintenance.

You might form relationship... but it probably won't be love.

The European form might be more appealing than the Japaneze form.

    Reliability is middle-of-the-road.

(Any other double entendres out there.... ;-)

Peugoet built a reputation into the 80s of being conservative, solid reliable cars. The 504 was the king of africa such was it's reputation for dependability snd ruggedness in tough environments.

Then in the 80s the company needed a big kick start and the 205 saved it from falling behind and the brand had some beutifully styled fun handling cars. It does seem it lost it's way from about 2002 onwards. Don't think the 307 or 407s where great cars. The 206 was a still a great seller though.

Had a 308 a few times as a rental and was very impressed with it in the focus class. I'd say like their citroen sisters it's the amount of electrics in them now that are the weakest spots, but if they are well looked after overall they should be decent for reliability as they can't afford to tarnish their rep more after those dodgy years in the 2000s.
