Having an issue with a flickering driver information panel at the centre of my dash which is driving me crazy.

Car is a 06 Honda Civic (hatchback) 1.8L petrol.
Hard not to notcie that the central panel that gives mileage, temp, fuel consumption, seat belts locked, doors or boot open etc. has started to flicker between off, to a full white out screen to night/day level of illumination. Never had an issue before, battery is relatively new (about 2yo) and the car is serviced regularly. No other electrical problems at all to be fair. Have googled & found no real similar matches for a civic of that model & year and am wondering if it could be something as simple as a fuse needing replacing or something that will need a dealer to take in & replace/repair?

Anyone come across this kind of fault before?

I'd say you have an internal fault in the cluster. There are companies in the UK that specialise in repairing clusters, but depending on the car it may not be driveable in that time.

    Thanks for that.

Looks like I'll have to take it to a Honda dealer & see is there anything they can do. No doubt it eill be a case of them replacing it with a new one & charging handsomely for it though...

Do not take it to Honda, escpecially for a 10 year old car. They will only advise that it needs a new cluster + programming + labour.

Dry solder joint was my first thought.

Google suggests that may be the case:

Had to do some DIY with a Honda CRV clock before, dry solder joints. Temperature dependent clock display :-(

Sounds like a good starting point. Will ask the mechanic that I normally deal with for servicing etc. if its something he could look after. Reading through those forums it seems taking to to a honda dealer would be expensive and as I plan to change the car in the next few months a more cost effective fix would be preferable.

Thanks for the replies folks, much appreciated.
