So this I what I woke up to today, I remember hitting a 'mighty' pothole last night, anyway since I have driven about 150mls with no indication of damage..... After parking up over night, today reversed out of drive and as I turned the steering I heard loud squeaking sound and that continued on each turn of the wheel as I made my way back to my drive.... So found part of my spring near the top of said spring, the coil spring is still in place with no obvious movement and seems solid enough!! Do you think I could drive 2 miles slowly and carefully to my mechanic on Monday?

Its hard to say for sure if it was a rear spring it would be ok but the front one turns with the steering could pop out of place at any stage.

Is it top or bottom of the coil thats broken ?? Bottom would be better than top.

A fiesta by any chance? Happened to my 2003 fiesta last year, I was lucky in that like you I went out one morning and the spring had snapped, hate to think what could have happened had it happened on the motorway. I also happened to live 200m from a garage at the time so I drove it very slowly and flinching every time I heard the click of the CV joint to the garage where they charged me £80 to replace the spring.
If I were you I would drive far or fast on it as it could be a lot more to replace coil spring and CV joints due to he excess stress through them.

    You'll be grand.

Just take extreme care while driving them 2 miles. :)

Think it's top of spring! 2011 Skoda Octavia.... I think I'll just take the chance, slow, hazards, no sharp turns.....

No bumps, no potholes, no kerbs....

If it's creaking when turning it could be a cv joint.

Post up a pic of the coil it's from, happened to me at night on a bank holiday 40 mins from destination. Top of my spring was gone, top mount askew.

Was told that the risk was if I hit a heavy pothole the shock could go straight through the engine mount.

I opted to get there avoiding back roads slowly as you could too, just no sudden movements and avoid potholes which with the rain is a bit harder. Advise I heard is to replace them in pairs also.

If you're concerned you might lose control then ask the mechanic to come the 2 miles and either look over it or take it off on a trailer.

Search Briskoda, I seem to recall this as being an issue with MKii Octavia's. Happened a friend of mine's vRS and was replaced under goodwill.

For what it's worth I drove my jeep around 5 miles on winding bumpy country roads with a bust spring. I drove slow as hell tho. I was really nervous of damaging the shock but it was grand.
