A4 condensation and window problem

Basically having two different problems with my a4 at the moment. Its a 2006

    a. basically in this weather the windows get fogged up really quickly when stopped. Even just parked outside next to my parents car (they have a 2015 car so its new) my car could be all condesated whereas their windows could be clear. Is there something here that I should check? Secondly the aircon can be very slow to clear it, if the car is bad it may take 10 minutes to completely clear it with the air con on full blast. so I imagine the aircon is only working poorly? Don't want to spend a whole pile. Would it be worthwhile getting the gas refilled? Not even sure if it is gone but surely cant be great for a 10 year old car?

    b. second problem is with the front electric windows. It started off with the drivers electric window only working sometimes and if you opened and closed the door enough it eventually worked. Passenger window would work fine from the passengers side. (drivers switches were replaced a year ago along with the drivers window regulator but problem persists) Recently the passengers window has also stopped working along with the interior lights not going off when doors are shut so I have to keep them in the off position.
A friend said to me that it could be an ecb unit or something in the drivers door. Is there such a thing? He suggested to get a second hand unit and get it fitted. What the mechanic previously did was solder wires where the door opens and closes but this didn't resolve the issue. Is there some ecu unit which would control all this? electric mirrors work perfect the whole time

What engine is in the A4?

Something similar happened in mine with the heating, mechanic said the heater core (I think) was gone and the whole dash had to come out to replace it. The heater would never get hot enough to clear the windscreen

Anyway its the electric windows is the big one I need to get sorted as it wont pass the nct unless drivers window is working. NCT isn't due until March anyway but will need to get it sorted.

There are drains that block with leaves and debri. They are located in the rear of the engine bay and tough to get at. Your central convenience module CCM is located under the carpet and they usually get damp and malfunction as a result. google these items for a resolve they are linked

Is there any sign of damp on your carpet? (Particularly near passenger seat). The A4 b7 model was prone to water building up in the tray that the battery sits in. This eventually makes its way back into the cabin near the passenger seat. There's an ECU there which controls windows, heating etc.

Also check that you are running the AC using external air, not just recycling internal air.

Do you have the recirculating function enabled on your air con unit? It looks like a curved arrow.

This would recycle air in your car, rather then bringing in fresh dryer external air

I didn't pull them up in case I couldn't put them back properly or is it an easy job?

Check the rubber seal at base of pollen filter housing.

    Hi,
I had a similar problem with an A4 2006 also. I still have the foggy windows when the weather is bad even with the aircon serviced.
Regarding the window its most likely the wiring loom in the door, mine did the same intermittent electric window & drivers door not locking with the keyfob. i had the wiring loom replaced & no issues ever since.
Check if there is a lot of water trapped where your battery sits as A4's are prone to this, i unblocked mine last year & a lot of water came out. By any chance do you ever find your boot is unlocked after a cold night? Apparently this causes dampness in the car also.

ok most recent update with the windows. went out and played with it for 5 minutes.

Firstly nothing on the door worked. it was dark and had the lights on. So when the drivers door was closed I could see the electric window light was on in the passenger side and not in the drivers side. Opened the drivers door half way and the lights came on the drivers side electric windows and all electrics started to work. Close the door (or even just before door was about to shut) all lights on drivers side stopped and all electrics stopped working again. passenger side also only works if the drivers door is half open and doesn't work otherwise.

does this sound like the wiring loom needs to be replaced?

Sounds like the driver side switch is the culprit(or less likely a nicked/loose wire. remove switch and either dismantle and clean or replace with one from scrap yard. You can wiggle wires when the door card is off to isolate the fault. GL

Common on these , in the loom between where it goes from the door back into the car the largest wire breaks , you can (as i've done) , remove the door loom (diy job using the net for info) find the damaged wire , solder in a splice, refit the loom . All you need is a few tie wraps and possibly some replacement clips for the door trim which break during removal .
Condensation issue blocked drains in area under battery or/and very old pollen filter. Can you hear water sloshing around in the front of the car after heavy rain of a car wash.

I can't remember exactly, but I think it was around €350. I think the wiring loom was around €220 plus an hour to fit it. I had other jobs done at the same time.
