Vodafone account, but UPC showing as ISP?

Visiting parents for Xmas and I'm wondering if there is something up with their broadband.

They have a vodafone fibre package and it has been slow over the last few days. (normally about 50mbsp download and 20 upload, but now less than 10 for both). I put that down to the fact that there would be a lot of home broadband use while everybody is off work for Xmas.

There were also a lot of erroring accessing web pages - with the message "dns_probe_finished_bad_config". The SSID on the router now has a "2" tacked onto the end of it.

Then when I ran a speedtest I noticed that the IP is coming up as UPC. How is that possible?

The two says they're likely using a booster or repeater. Bin it.

Its possible their repeater latched onto next door, making a mess of things.

If their network has a 2 at the end it means it's a different network, you are most likely not connected to theirs

    Thanks for those replies.

Removed a set of homeplugs and that seems to have resolved things. Normal SSID showing and Vodafone being detected as the ISP.

Neighbours are on UPC so somehow homeplugs must have been connecting to their network like you suggested. Did not think that was possible.

Homeplugs are able to clone (mimic wireless) and pair (use encryption). If you skip this second step they broadcast in the clear and will talk to any other plugs they can manage. It was likely a poor connection over the breakers(RCBOs) but can still work. In theory you could connect several homes on a street that share a phase, so always pair them.
