I've been vegetarian for a few months now & generally getting on well with it. No meat cravings except for when I'm hungover. Thankfully not very often. I'm not a big drinker

Anyone got any recommendations for vegetarian hangover food? I usually buy dee's vegan sausages but they're too healthy when I'm feeling rough.

Well if you're not vegan, then you might eat dairy? I think I'd be having a toasted cheese sandwich and mug of tea, or chips and fried eggs, or a spicy veggie curry!

Can't beat an aul crisp sandwich!
Or beans on toast/waffles if someone else is making food.

Crisp sandwich is always a winner.

I also enjoy a sandwich with Linda McCartney sausages and lots of ketchup. A fried egg (if you're not vegan) or potato waffle on the side is nice as well.

I don't eat a lot of fake 'meats', but Dunnes have expanded their veggie range and now sell Quorn gammon steaks. IMO, they're the nicest thing Quorn have ever made. Today, I used one for a 'bacon' butty, washed down with a mug of tae. It was so nice...I made a second butty. :D

Not generally a fan of fake meats either but could have done with something today.

In the end I went with toast & waffles for lunch and a dirty big 3 in 1 from the local Chinese this evening.

Vickie, which Dunnes did you pick up the Quorn gammon steaks from?

I haven't seen these around before.

    Are they new?

Dunnes in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. Their veggie range is pretty good. I'd never seen these before, so they might be new to the Quorn range.

Shops vary so much...hope you can find them. :)

    Thanks Vickie

I am in Dublin so I will keep an eye out for them when I am out and about.

I know what you mean about the variation in shops but any longer term veggies that I know swear that things are a lot better than they
were a few years ago and are still improving.

If you look at the Quorn website there is a lot of products listed that I have never seen in the shops here.
For example the Quorn Beef steaks look really good.

    Curry chips
    Pizza ( if not vegan)
    Pasta with a new
    Toast
Birds eye veggie burger with bun
    Indian food

    For anybody who is interested,

They have the Quorn gammon steaks in Dunnes in Charlestown/Finglas store.

They must be new because I often shop there and I have not seen them before.

Vickie is right, they are really good. I just had a couple of them for dinner. :D

Thanks for that. :-) They're on special at two packs for €4 so I just bought some in Dunnes Citywest.

Each pack has four gammons, BTW.

I've checked my local Dunnes in Rathmines but no sign :( I've emailed them to hurry up! I did find a lovely Quorn chorizo & mozzarella pasta there the other day so I expect the range is improving. Were they in the chiller or freezer?

Anyone seen any of the vegan quorn stuff yet?

How about an Irish breakfast with no meat?

Fried egg, fried potato, beans, fried mushroom etc?

Fried eggs, quorn sausages (or quorn anything really), waffles, hash browns, chips, etc etc etc.

It's the carbs and fats that cure the hangover anyway, you don't really need any protein.

LIDL have started doing some of the Quorn stuff now. Not sure which products but they all seem to be €1.79

One of my favourite hangover breakfasts is fried eggs with hash browns. Plenty of salt and the sauce of your choice. I don't ever eat hash browns otherwise.

I love a full Irish veggie!

Fried halloumi, smoked strips of aubergine, fried eggs, potato farls, fried mushroom and cherry tomatoes. Throw in some vegetarian sausages too if you think your tummy can handle it! I made the mistake once of thinking I could eat 3 vegetarian sausages, 2 potato cakes, 4 thick chunks of halloumi, 2 scrambled eggs and 4 slices of toast... Came close at least!

    Other quality hangover food includes;
    Falafel
    Indian curries
    Anything with halloumi
    Pizza (of course)
Roast pies w/ chips/roast potatoes (spinach and goats cheese, ale mushroom & chestnut, leek and blue cheese, etc) - to be honest roast pies with roast potatoes and veggies is probably my favourite meal of all time
Chip, fake steak and cheese butty
    Portobello mushroom burgers

Sometimes a pasta with a really thick and cheesy roux, served with garlic bread, is good. I'm getting so hungry talking about all this great food! Oh, and how could I forget, perhaps my ultimate hangover food... Spanish omelette!!!
