    Hi all,

I'm hoping to get some clarity on this. I've 2 UPC points in my APT. one we have a subscription for and the other I dont. on the one I dont I plugged the white cable directly to the TV and got about 13 free channels. we bought a new TV today and plugged the white cable into it but it wouldnt pick up the 13 channels

This is the TV we bought

    http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/jvc-lt32c350-32-led-tv/327212/404.0.5

I'm going to swap it tomorrow but can anyone tell me what sort of feature im looking for to pick up those channels?

I dont have the option to put in aerials or satelites to get saorview/freeview we dont watch to much TV which if I can get this working then I'm going to cancel UPC

Does the TV have an analogue tuner? You need to do an analogue scan if it does. If it doesn't then you can't get them.

If you cancel UPC you'll eventually be disconnected and will lose the channels. Nothing is free on cable.

List of analogue channels carried on cable in Dublin at the moment - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=93774102#post93774102.

As posted above they may only be accessible is you have an active broadband or TV sub.

I think I've finally spotted what the issue may bet he JVC to I bought is advertised as DVB-T Irish Digital Ready Tuner

Whereas the other TVs show DVB-T2 Irish Digital Ready Tuner

Perhaps that's why the JVC doesn't pick up the analog channels whereas the old TV and another TV in my house does?

DVB-T and DVB-T2 are both flavours of 'Digital Video Broadcasting' the clue is in the name whereas analogue is a different beast needing different technology.

Have a look at the specification page in the TV's manual for these analogue tuner specs "Television System PAL I / BG / DK SECAM L / BG / DK".

A cheap and cheerful TV exclusive to Currys/PC World no doubt, minus an analogue tuner and surprisingly no DVB-T2 tuner for the UK's FreeviewHD channels.

Some time ago I had tele plugged to the wall but I had only broadband service from UPC and I couldn't receive any analog channels.

One day, when I was having troubles with my router and I called UPC technician to my house and after router repair I asked him about tv channels. He answered "do you want it? I can turn it on for you - it's free". Since that time I can watch analog channels, so I assume it's not available every cable by default.
