First fix - how does it actually work ?

    A few weeks ago I detected a leak in the incoming water supply between my front door and Irish Water's (IW)meter.

    I cannot see the leak as it has not shown on the surface. I hear it through the pipe.
    I followed every item on the IW check list item from the attic down. I also made a visual inspection of the mains pipe under our floorboards (cut outs in floor boards left by an electrician allow this !). No internal leaks found.

    On closing the internal stop valve two things happen. The sound of a leak is still heard. The IW meter still turns indicating flowing water.

    On closing the IW stop cock there is silence and the meter does not turn.

    I have taken random meter readings. There is just under 1 unit of water being registered every 24 hours which is significantly deviant from normal useage.

    I notified IW by telephone of the leak. The customer service people were very helpful and they have requested a leak investigation.

    MY QUESTIONS ;

    1. How long will it take IW to call to investigate ? I am in Dublin.

    2. If a leak is found and is eligble for the "first fix scheme" I understand that I will have to sign an indemnity form before works starts. I have heard some criticisms of the indemnity form in terms of what the customer may be signing.  I assume it is a standard wording.
    Can I see a template of the indemnity form anywhere as I would like to read it for myself.

    3. If this is a valid leak under the first leak system what is the position about the cost of the water registered against me as having been used ? Obviously, I have a working supply but some of it is going in to the ground after it is registered by the meter.
