Had huge problems using system following upgrade to El Capitane. Took the computer (an 18-month old Mac Book Air) to Apple in the UK, who advised me to download everything and back up from my Time Machine, Only thing cannot back up is mail - any one know how to do this?

When you use Time Machine it backs up the entire system by default including email. when you are re-installing the OS to the computer select restore from Time Machine Backup and everything should be back where it was originally.

to restore mail from time machine, open your mail program.
    then open time machine.

it will open mail in the time machine, and you can select what to restore.

alternatively, you can manually browse the time machine folder structure and find where the v2 mail folder is located.
NB: you will need to turn hidden files and folders on for this via terminal.
