    From Motorhead's FB page

There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.
We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.
We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.
    Have a drink or few.
    Share stories.
Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.
    HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.
    Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister

RIP. A true rock n roll legend.

Had the pleasure of meeting him backstage at that Dalymount gig with Black Sabbath back in the 80s and he was a gent to us.

Him and Phil gone in such a short space of time. :(

    Gutted.

Never thought the day would actually come. So glad I got to see them twice though. And he really did keep going til the end.

    Don't forget them.
They were Motorhead. And they played rock and roll.

Between Lemmy and Scot Weiland its been a tough few months for the music of my formative years. Lemmy had an air of 'I'm going to live forever f*ck all of you.' Gutted to hear of his passing. By the sounds of things it was totally unforeseen and very quick.

Absolutely gutted. Don't think resting in peace was ever part of his philosophy - so rock hard and loud, Lemmy.

Going to spend tonight doing what the band have said on their website - drink, play 'Bomber' extremely loud and watch 'Decline Of Western Civilization Part II - The Metal Years' with Lemmy being the most level-headed amongst the Sunset Strip posers.

    :)

Both him and Mustaine seemed the most logical and sanest voices on that even though the both of them were off their tits on drugs at the time.

Watched the documentary "Lemmy" again this morning. Near the end the subject of death is touched on, and one particular response is pretty poignant:

"Whenever it happens there won't be many tears shed, just a tonne of stories about the good times had with that man and the music".

Seems to have come to pass. My Facebook feed is full of stories of friends who met Lemmy, or remembering stupid stuff that happened at Motorhead gigs. Far too many people just latch on to the "RIP" trend when a musician passes on, but the amount of people Lemmy and Motorhead genuinely had a huge influence on is wonderful to see. Got Bad Magic blaring again today, brilliant album to go out on.

Have a couple of Lemmy Stories myself

About 15yrs ago i was writing a weekly rock column for my local paper in North Wales, tried to get an interview with Lemmy before a gig at the Manchester Academy but told he was doing no regional press, turned up at the gig and decided we'd have a bash anyway, asked for the tour manager, who came out, told him we were from The North Wales Weekly News and asked him if we could grab 10mins, "No chance" he said, asked him to tell Lemmy where we were from, he said he would but still no chance, he told my mate and i to go to the bar, if it was on he'd come and get us.
Went to the bar, ordered a pint each and it hadn't even touched our lips when we got a tap on the shoulder "Lemmy said he wants to speak to you" :D:D:D

We were took backstage and the first thing out of the great man's lips was "How's Llandudno, still as **** as ever!" We spent 30mins just chatting about the area, where he lived, what he did, he seemed genuinely interested in what happened to his old hangouts.

The second time was at Extreme Fest at The RDS (2002?), My mates band (Breed 77) opened that day and my wife (then GF ) and i offered our services to crew for them for free as we knew how tightly there budget was.
It was my best mate's birthday a few days later so i bought a birthday card and went in to see Lemmy, asked him if he'd write it to Dave, from Colwyn Bay, this is what he wrote :-

    To Dave from Colwn Bay
    Happy Birthday
    From Lemmy
    Also from Colwyn fucking Bay

Dave now treasures that birthday card, Lemmy even remembered our previous chat in Manchester, spent another 30 mins or so just talking about the area.

From The Rainbow Bar & Grill's Facebook page
Due to the overwhelming and supportive response to Lemmy's memorial we are now using the entire Strip to compensate for overflow. The Rainbow will close from 5:00 until 9:00 for a private service Saturday however the Roxy and Whisky will remain open to accommodate those looking to show their respects during this time. Thank you.

If you follow Science news at all, you may be aware that discoveries of some new elements were recently confirmed. The elements are heavy metals, so you can probably guess where this is going ... there's a petition to name one of them Lemmium.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

What gets buried today is polar opposite of the puritanical world that made up the first half of the 20th century. And it's possible western world is heading towards a sanitised inoffensive culture. That's why this is important.

Popped back over to my hometown in Wales on Wed/Thurs, same town that Lemmy grew up in, we have a weekly rag and they did a double page spread on him, put most of the nationals to shame

    Have a read

That was a really awesome service and a fitting sendoff. Such a cool moment at the end with the bass left against the amp feeding back as it faded to black. :(

Lemmy's amp being switched on, and his trusted Rickenbacker being left to lean against said amp while feeding back, that caught me off guard :(
