Of the Year lists #1. Ads...

So what was your favourite ad of 2015?

I must admit the Optilase one makes me laugh every time. It's hearing a Z list celebrity, Celia Holman Lee, try to say "world" that gets me...

I think the most striking one is Honda's Stepping campaign, not too many would have thought of using General Levy's hit from the mid 90s (and the origin of the "jungle is massive" line), along with some clever choreography, to sell a car. Usually Peugeot had the good music ones. Anyway, kudos to Honda...

Ads are annoying and anyone entertained by them needs serious help.

That Eir ad with the epic Irish lyric chant in the background, for sure.

That one that was on the BBC ...classic.

Ah no, a good ad can be one of the best things on tv, whether it relies on music or humour etc.

Michel Gondry's Levi's ad still lingers some 20 years after its release. It was clever, and Biospheres music was just...perfect...

I can't recall one advert, good or bad, as I usually switch around when they're on or fast forward through them. I can't imagine anybody paying any attention to them.

The one with the stray baby pig who likes custard cream biscuits. Zero idea what it was advertising though - the mark of a quality advertisement :pac:

The ad with the guy in the van who is friends with Baz?

    It's...DESPERATE!

The whole ad is based on the premise that baby pigs are cute, so they'll create a very strained story to vaguely link that cuteness to the product. That's all there is to it. It's from the same thinking that in previous decades would have lumped a woman in a bikini into an ad on the basis that the people with spending power would find it cute and look past the plot!

    Oh for fcuk sake.

Why bother your hole starting a thread if you are going to rip other peoples choices to shreds.

The pig ad is MY favourite. That's what you asked, isn't it?

Good job on sabotaging your own thread.

    Jaysis.

People can disagree with preferences and opinions. Welcome to the www.

You're a mod, you should know that's how it goes and not get so very defensive, start swearing etc.

My apologies for swearing, but you're right, I'm well aware of how these things go. That's why it's frustrating. What's your favourite ad? Oh that? that's a terrible choice.

    Again, my apologies for swearing.

My favourite ad... Not the hipster pig guy as I feel I misrepresents what they are saying - 90% pop coverage and they use rural remote geographical areas...

Probably Putin or the Builder on Money Supermarket

I'll do it when I get back yeah.

Are you going out for some parts?

    It's Friday, it's 5 o'clock and I'm off on my holiers...2 weeks in torrimelinos...It's gonna be tropic.

    Best advert EVER...

despite being pornhub it's very safe for work .

Yeah, I think the Eir one is the only one that stands out to me (not least since I don't have a TV, so my exposure to ads is pretty limited).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,642 ✭✭✭MRnotlob606

I hate all the Aldi ads. It's like they're making a desperate attempt in a bid to appear Irish. Which is a sort of losing battle. How can you have a supermarket without a deli ffs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,547 ✭✭✭Agricola

I pay no attention to them. Watching tele these days is normally only bearable by recording and fast-forwarding through the 6 minute ad breaks every 10 minutes. When you look at those youtube clips of the best ads from years ago, very few today are clever, memorable or even funny. It's just all about bashing you over the head with it now.

Deli? Overpriced rubbish stored in plastic wrapping anyway

    Favourite ads?

The ones on boards that bring me to a different website without me even touching them.

The "up there for thinking" one?

It's pretty good alright, the driving instructor leaving the driver mid 3 point turn is part if the same campaign and is good too.

Well sometimes it's nice to have hot food on the go. Especially if you haven't got the time to cook.

Also the other Vodafone one - Aoife and her brother coming home for Christmas :)

It's a great ad...but pretty sure it wasn't part of any televised campaign, but a promotion by an ad company from a few years ago.

The only ad l've seen this year was one that was posted here, some lad on a moon with a telescope. Can't remember what it was for, so that would have to get my vote.
