hello, has anyone here ever heard of or know of any problems with the Volvo S40 1.8 petrols causing the conrod to punch through the side of the block. its a 2006 with only 100k on the clock, car never got abused and serviced regular, was giving no issues until this. he was just driving along, the car gave a couple of stutters then all lights came on and car rolled to a stop. also has full Volvo dealer service history.

Loads of things can cause this from poor servicing to having sucked up some water in a flood and having the conrod bent slightly. New engine time I'm afraid and I wouldn't expect any form of goodwill on a car that old.
