FTTC confusion

    Hi all,

On the efibre rollout map there's a cabinet that's in progress and another that's planned.

The one in completion is based right beside the telephone exchange which currently has adsl2+, I'm confused as to why it would be placed there if the idea behind FTTC is to reduce the distance needed to reach the backhaul on copper wiring.

Also if my line can barely handle the 24MB profile on adsl2+, ( 6 downstream snr but good attenuation 320metres as the crow flies ) does that mean I`ll have similar vdsl2 speeds?

    Thanks for any help!

FTTEx (Fibre to the Exchange) i.e. cabinet is in the exchange, eVDSL (exchange launched VDSL). Many lines are direct fed from an exchange instead of a street cabinet.

There are certain problems associated with VDSL from the exchange and because of this Comreg only gave permission for it earlier this year, thread on it here - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057262696

At the moment up to 70 Mbps is available instead of up to a 100 Mbps from a vectored cabinet but vectoring is expected to be enabled in certain exchanges next year which will bump the speed up to 100 Mbps like a street cabinet. Distance is also limited to 1.7kms from a non-vectored exchange (2kms from a vectored cabinet) - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057526314.

See this eir document (page 131) for VDSL speeds vs. distance for vectored cabinets (stable profile is for their eir-Vision TV customers).

The limit is 1500m, KN will refuse to install beyond that distance until vectoring is enabled.
