    Merry Christmas ya'll 😊

    Looking at a 04 730D or 300C

Both seem to be well equipped and good decent mpg for the size etc.

Obviously the BMW is more popular but I want something different.

Are the 300C reliable or is there a reason you don't see to many?

Can't really see why anyone would take a 300C over a 730 to be honest!

The BMW from that era suffered from electrical problems.

An 12 year old 730 is a potential minefield of problems.
The 300C is basic enough, solid merc engine and 5 speed auto. If the looks appeal it's not a bad car.

I agree, a 12 year old 730 is a potential minefield but any that's on the road now would have most problems sorted. 300C does look class though but I couldn't live with the interior!

I did hear that about the 730 and although I do prefer the interior it's just the 300C is different than most cars in the road.

Any gearbox issues with the 300C, does it use a merc gearbox?

Strange logic imo, bathtub curve etc, they won't improve with age. Issues can reoccur too, no fix lasts forever.

Not really, the Merc auto box in it though only a 5 speed handles monstrous amounts of torque, very solid thing to be fair.

Despite what I said about the 730 a 300C isn't my thing at all though, putting that aside the 300C isn't bad at all.

Two very different cars, so hard to compare. Have a mate doing research on 300Cs at the moment, supposed to be quite reliable.

The 730s also have a reliable engine, albeit i'd be looking at a facelifted model. Strangely enough, both above models return in and around the same MPG on paper.

I looked into 730d's a year ago when I was looking for my 535. The amount of electrical problems alone and maintenance costs put me off that I came across on the forums. If you get a good one they are a cracking car. Only thing that the rival the 7 series in terms of luxury, drive, size etc is the s class.

My advice would be have a rainy day fund of a few grand put aside for the 7 series if you end up going with it. It will give you a bit more piece of mind when owning a car like that

Infinitely cooler! I mean early E65's aren't great really. 300c has an excellent engine gearbox combo and yeah the interior isn't German but in some ways I think that's nearly better!

Interior is where you're going to be, that's what I like to be nice :p

300c for me is a taxi with fake Bentley badges.

I was also looking at a 07 GS300 which considering its petrol the running cost is not that much higher.

Standard spec seem to be pretty generous and due to the fact it's a 3 litre petrol they can be bought very cheap.

I did see one with a Bentley Badge in Mullingar.

    I suppose it's like putting a Jag badge on a Rover 75!!

I can stomach 1400 tax but 1800 is a sin!

As for the running cost, I'd there a huge difference compared to the GS300 I wonder
