    Hi

Just wondering if anyone could help.

I took voluntary redundancy and due to finish on the 31/12/15. I know with taking voluntary redundancy you have to wait up to 9 weeks to get social welfare. I have secured a temporary job starting the 04/01/16. It's only for 5-7 weeks. My question is how will this affect me. Will my 9 weeks start after the temporary employment ends or does the temporary job cancel the voluntary redundancy out.

The temporary job is all above board so will be paying tax etc

Depends on the mood they are in, your claim cannot start till the temporary jobs end, and if they try to enforce the 9 weeks, it should be from the start of the redundancy, so at most you lose 2/3 weeks, rather than the 9 weeks.

Of course there are no rules and regulations in SW it all depends on moods and whims of the employees at any given time

If you take voluntary redundancy you dont have to wait 9 weeks unless the redundancy payment is >50k and you are under 55 then there is a staggered disallowance period depending on the amount you received. See below. Once your temp work is finished you apply for sw straight away if no disallowance period applies.

    Redundancy

If you are aged under 55 and get a redundancy payment of more than €50,000 you are disqualified from claiming Jobseeker's Benefit. The table below shows how long you may be disqualified for. The length of the disqualification is at the discretion of the deciding officer (who can take your circumstances into account). Any period of disqualification is subtracted from your total Jobseeker's Benefit entitlement. So if you are disqualified for 3 weeks (which is 18 days payment) your JB claim starts on day 19. Note that people who take voluntary redundancy and do not get a redundancy payment of over €50,000 can claim jobseeker's payments immediately.
Amount of redundancy payment Period of disqualification
    €50,000.01 - €55,000 1 week
    €55,000.01 - €60,000 2 weeks
    €60,000.01 - €65,000 3 weeks
    €65,000.01 - €70,000 4 weeks
    €70,000.01 - €75,000 5 weeks
    €75,000.01 - €80,000 6 weeks
    €80,000.01 - €85,000 7 weeks
    €85,000.01 - €90,000 8 weeks
    €90,000.01 and over 9 weeks

You should get your redundancy the day you leave. The poster above me has it right...

Sometimes their is room for 'interpretation' but as another poster pointer out, unless the package is over a limit, there is no need to worry.
