Does anyone here feed cattle enough to do them 2-3 days?

what's the best way to leave bales at barrier? There's 8 store heifers per pen. would two bales/pen keep them going?

Will feed them day 1 around 9am. They'd have to fend for themselves day2. then back day 3 before midday. usually see them every day but will be gone visiting over xmas and no help.

If it's just an odd time just grape it along the barrier.
Bigger worry if it was frosty weather and a chance if drinkers freezing.

It's not ideal not to see them but if they're already healthy it should be fine.

Did it myself last spring over weekend of brothers wedding.

    3 pen open house
7 cows and calves each pen
2 bales put in front of each pen on Sunday afternoon
Either standing up or on side depending on way stacked
All net and wrap took off
Pushed in with power box every two or three days
    Silage finished Friday evening
Saturday morning round bale of straw
    Sunday afternoon repeat process

My setup is standard ~15ft bays, locking barriers, 7 spaces per bay.
I put 1 bale at the column between each bay and then 2 additional bales along the barrier, all standing on the flat edge. So, in a 3 bay shed, you'd be putting n a total of 8 bales. If these are placed on the morning of day 1, they'd need to be pushed in to the barrier on the morning of day 3. Imo the biggest issue is going to be the type of barrier to prevent the heifers pulling in the silage to the slats.
