have submersible well pump, it keeps cutting out and needs to be reset at control box , opened control box ,it contains capacitor and some wiring. think reset is for pressure switch, could that be faulty or is pump fecked. it worked ok up to couple weeks ago. it is about 5 years old
    thanks

Are you sure it's a pressure switch? It could be an overload.

    A photo would help.

The reset is usually an overcurrent device. As far as I can remember, its a bit of a guessing game. A grip ammeter is usually put on the wires to pump to check currents. The capacitor or overcurrent protector itself could be faulty. After that, the pump itself usually has to be taken up. On the pumps that I was familiar with, the pump consisted of two sections bolted together plus the cable and tail and epoxy joint. The whole lot, including control box and sometimes pressure vessel and pressure switch are often brought in to workshops for check. Typical series problems are water leaks into motor, pump seizing, sand in pump and resulting motors burnt out, cable leaks etc.

9 times out of 10 the capacitor is going the overload trips because the motor is not able start
