Cycle Speedo with Large Display Reqd for Rollers

    Hi All
I am looking for sommit fairly rare and I know somebody somewhere has the answer....

I am hopefully going to attempt a 12 hour roller ride next year for charity and for the sheer hell of it. I have been riding on a Tacx Galaxia set this last 2 or so months and feel fairly confident. I can take a drink and can start and stop without the need of a door frame. Even no hands has been done as well

That's the boring bit over so I would like a speed readout/HR on a large display so that it will catch the eye of the casual bystander.

Is anything available ? It dosent matter if the speed is picked up from the bike or rollers....? A display like the ones you see at a running race ?

I recall our club at the end of the 80's getting a lend of 4 rollers which were all linked to 4 massive clocks all colour coded and mechanically driven by cables..... Every spin of the clock was 1/2 mile ..

Its not the most difficult of electronic projects I know but Id like it off the shelf....

Any Ideas lads? Thanks in Advance

Would it be feasible for you to use something like the Wahoo Kickr (bluetooth speed/cadence sensor) along with a compatible fitness tracking app on an android tablet/iPad? I don't know for certain that there's an app out there with a suitable UI, to be honest, but if I was looking to do something like this, that's the route I would go down. Similarly there are bluetooth HR monitors on the market, but you'd need to be sure the batteries in both monitors would last the 12 hours, but if they're not rechargeable they'd need to really.

Admittedly some tablets do have ant+ support, but not sure if they work with sensors in the same way.

Ahh now thanks a million for that... I wasn't thinking of that at all. I can hook the phone or tablet to a big screen... !

Yeah that's the right way to go.. I can bosch it all together easy enough !

Ive looked at an electronics diagram using a bank of 7 segment LED displays and a fairly substantial driver chips to run the show... ! It will probably dim the street lights and generate that much heat that it probably would need fans to cool it off ......!

Wasn't thinking a tablet or smartyfone at all.... Good man !!

yep. hook up your laptop to a screen via hdmi.

if you have speed and cadence sensors on your bike you could use something like trainer-road to display your data in real time. speed, cadence, hrt, virtual power, time etc.
