    half acre of ground where we foddered a few cattle last year on it, they tramped it badly and wondered if chain harrowing it and some seed later on may sort it for the time being

    I wouldn't touch it till April/ may time. Let it harden a bit and pull a land leveller or even transport box loaded and then give it a run of the chain Harrow. Too often you can do more damage going in too early.

    leave it be a while

    land will find it's own level in time

    had the same last year & put weights onto an old buck rake - dragged it around and gave a good coat of slurry in april and came the finest again

    would i need to sow grass seed over it as bare clay in many places
