JOHN FERGUSON, currently in fifth position in the British jumps trainers' championship, is to quit training at the end of April to become chief executive and racing manager to a new streamlined Godolphin operation.

The best of Ferguson's horses, almost exclusively recruited from Godolphin and Darley to run under the Bloomfields banner, are set to rejoin Godolphin, with Charlie Appleby taking charge from his base at Moulton Paddocks in Newmarket.
Does anyone else think this move is pre-mature? I know there isn't a whole pile of money in jumps racing, but Bloomfields were only going from strength to strength and I would have thought it was only a matter of time until they unearthed a superstar.

Poor old Aidan Coleman won't be too pleased either.

Doesn't make much sense as most of their jump recruits were at best decent handicappers and are unlikely to get any black type by being run as 4yo and beyond on the flat.

A couple of big jumps wins and they'll easily break £1m in prize money from a string of about 40-50 horses, some trainers would kill for that level of success.
