Quality of respray

Quick question for you guys. As you may know, I got my bonnet and driver side wing re-sprayed lately. At the time, was quite happy with the work as it looked fine to the naked eye.

Then had the car detailed yesterday, and under the bright lights required to identify scraping, swirling etc. it was pretty evident that some of the gravel chips were not filled in and were just sprayed over – so there are sprayed indentations, if you know what I mean – you can see the paint dip into the chippings. The bright lights also showed some pretty apparent “orange peel” finish to the paint – again, not entirely visible to the naked eye and I hadn’t noticed before, but once you are made aware of these things, I’m sure you know that’s all you’ll ever see when you look at the car.

The sprayer I used seems to be well-regarded but I’m a bit disappointed now, especially considering it cost in excess of €500. I’ve contacted them and am awaiting a response but do I have a right to be unhappy here or am I nit-picking by complaining?

Will post pics once I'm on WiFi.

The paint starts to shrink after drying and thus it starts showing up chips etc after a few days, sounds like that guy took a few shortcuts as most people cant spot a bad paint job

You can have orange peel from the factory so can't see you winning that argument with someone who doesn't fill in chips properly.

See what they say regarding the indentations.

Not filling in the stone chips and orange peel is simply caused by poor prep work.

If prepared right, it should be perfect. The best paint jobs are 99% prep work.

I'd go back and if the say a buff will polish it out, they are BS'ing, a buff only polishes the lacquer (clear coat) not the important colour coat which in your case is not right to start with.

depends on the place you got it done, i payed 1500 for partial respray of my 8 series, had to pay 1400 with a decent place to get it done properly a week later.
And trust me the 1400 was a far, far better job than the first 1500 job,
The first place even sprayed over paint chips and forgot the big dent in the wing even though reminded them a few times.

Unfortunately there are good the bad and the ugly when it comes to body repairs.

Yep, unfortunately there's a thread here already about the place I got it done so I'll be bumping that shortly.
