Be careful of "list" threads! :pac:

Does the whole of Mad Max count? Well, the "first" chase scene when
Furiosa breaks and makes a run for it.
I was on the edge of my seat throughout. So well choreographed and the mix of practical to CG effects was seamless (to me).

All of the New mad max for me too.
The car Chase in the tunnel in Moscow in the Bourne supremacy as well

The island massacre in Commando The climatic orgy of all things Arnold.

I love us marshals where tommy lee says I want you to check every out house, hwore house and sh1t house .

The way of the gun(2000) only an OK movie overall, but has some great shootouts in it. They hired some great advisers and veterans and really tried to capture what a Shootout actually looks like.

"This is part of the climactic shootout scene in Christopher McQuarrie's unique kidnap thriller. The gun fight scenes in the movie are unique in that, they play out very strategically and realistically. People run out of bullets. Gunshots are loud. People miss often. And you sometimes have to unload an entire clip at someone till you hit them. All in all the gun fight at the end of this film is sort of a minor breakthrough in gun fight blocking for film."

    The car chases in Ronin.

That one near the end is probably one of the best ones I've seen, epicness.
To be fair, the whole film is brilliant.

Loved the end scene in Carlito's Way on the escalators. Great tension and a great end to a great movie.

I love the RED films. some bits like Bruce getting out of the car
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkxvB5S1LUQ

or (cant find video) where he uses the gun to "bat" the grenade to a perfect head shot of some poor guy

Way of the Gun gun battle is brilliant. Heat gunfight is pretty cool too.

Mad Max has scene after scene of goodness though pretty much the whole thing is action.

The car chase in Ronin is excellent. There's a sense of raw realism about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭Tomagotchye

Clearly nobody has watched the raid here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,172 ✭✭✭Mister Vain

The Raid is terrible. It's like a computer game.

Ellen Ripley going ape with her pulse rifle toward the end of aliens 2.
The end of a District 9.
    Predator-most if it.
Battlestar galactica, peagus episode at the end where admiral cane and Adama are going at it, one of the best scenes I've ever seen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭longshanks

The chase at the end of The Last of the Mohicans.
And it has Daniel Day Lewis in it.

The Raid 2- the fight in the Prison yard just awesome and that fight in the kitchen was just bonkers.

Mad Max Fury Road and Road Warrior- For Fury Road, you can pick any action scene from that glorious film and the last 20 minutes of Road Warrior.

Hard Boiled- the last 45 minutes in the Hospital are just out of this world.

A Better Tomorrow 2- The bloodiest last stand in action cinema once they hit the house.

    John Wick- The nightclub scene

Casino Royale- the Parkour chase just thrilling throughout, I'd also add the fight in the Stairwell, brutal.

Collateral- the Scene in the club.

Lobby scene in the matrix stands out for me. Actually the whole last 15-20 minutes makes that movie the litmus test for all blockbusters since.

Does it match the matrix yes/no?

The supermarket shootout in The Equalizer. The build up, the tension, music and the violence are unreal.
Martin Csokas was brilliant in that film imo.

    .

Agree but lets call it by its correct name Mad Max 2 :)

Mad Max (1978) has little action really as they had no budget but the caravan sequence still packs a raw punch.

The car chase in the Seven Ups is bril.

    Good picks so far

Robert Shaw vs Connery in From Russia With Love really was ahead of its time for unshowy, brutal fight scenes.

Any of the fight scenes in Kung Fu Hustle, particularly the landlords reveal.

    Trench run!

Car chase through central park etc in Die hard with a vengeance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,036 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

The car chase in 'The French Connection' is probably the most realistic chase scene ever filmed. Doyle's car chasing the 3rd Ave EL train feels like a real chase, because it's done on the random, once and without city approval. You'll never see its like again.

I'm a sucker for a well-choreographed fight scene. Someone has already mentioned the prison yard fight in The Raid 2 upthread, which is a magnificent example of how to show a large-scale brawl with elegant direction and great fight choreography. Another favourite is the corridor fight in Old Boy:

This free-running chase scene from District 13 is pretty great, too:

Ong Bak- The fight in the club when Tony Ja has to fight three different fighters with different styles of fighting.

Fist of Legend- Jet Li's last fight scene with the evil Japanese solider. A thing of beauty.

The Way of the Dragon- Chuck Norris vs Bruce Lee. Enough said.

The Man from Nowhere- When the hero Tae Shik fights off the bad guys, brutally stabbing and slashing at them.

They're some great fight scenes Looper. Bruce and Chuck is a classic.

I'm not really a Jet Li fan but I loved Kiss Of The Dragon. Some great action scenes in that.

    many sequences in this movie...

probably had the biggest impact on me at first viewing for an action movie that hasn't been surpassed since.

The pole cats scene in Fury Road was amazing, as was the bike chase.
Even something as simple as the the sand covering the war rig and the engine breathing afterwards seemed great.

The opening parkour chase from Casino Royale. Incredible scene.

Too many scenes to mention in The Raid Redemption and The Raid 2 but mainly the fight between the two brothers and mad dog, the prison yard fight and the kitchen fight

    The shootout in heat

The car chase, which was basically the whole film, in the original 1974 Gone in 60 seconds.

    The car chase in Ronin.

When it all kicks off in Aliens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,415 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Car chase in Ronin and shootout in Heat would be mine but already mentioned. The chariot race in Ben Hur or the pod race in The Phantom Menace which was an homage to the former I assume. And the big battle scenes in Return of the King

Love the whole chase at the end of mad max 2 which goes on for about 20 minutes.

    The car chases in Ronin.

Much as I love car chases I remember feeling underwhelmed by the chases in Ronin when I watched it. I must go back and see it again.

Loads of great ones mentioned already. For modern car chases I have a soft spot for the Moscow car chase in The Bourne Supremacy and also the armoured car robbery scene in The Town.

Watched that with my Mam over the Christmas.

When the scene ended she turned to me, took a drink of gin and whispered "Oh Mr. Darcy!"
