Honda Accord 2.0 i-vtec

Looking to move onto something else in the next couple of months and the only thing that catches my fancy is the seventh generation Accord.

Just wondering what they are like in terms of reliability, performance, economy and the rest ?

As well as that if anyone is able to simply explain how the i-vtec technology works in the 155 version as I believe they aren't like your old school vetc, not that it is what I'm after but more curious.

I noticed that these can do over 90 mph in 3rd gear so I'm guessing that they have very long ratios which is a bit of a bad thing ?

IVTEC is basically like VVTI on Toyotas, there is no cam wizardry in the high revs, just continuously variable timing on the inlet. Mainly for fuel economy.

I had a cl7 09 for a year. Lovely car and had no issues with it in that time. Mine was type s too. Power was decent but I think you had to get the revs up to get it moving really.
I used to get around 700 kilometers from a tank. I would get one again no problem love the looks of them.
Spec on type s wasn't brill but still nice place to be. Focus I hav now has better spec. Executive would have all the toys.

It would probably still be a move up from my mondeo in terms of spec I'd guess.

Another option I was considering was a mk4 2.0 petrol mondeo, however for someone who's still in there twenties I'd look quite out of place in one.

I've very little interest in looking at anything under 130 bhp unless it was small and no interest either in the devils juice as my mileage wouldn't justify it.

I'd a 04 auto for a few years. Never gave any trouble and had plenty of power for overtaking when needed.

They must be FAIRSH FASHT. Aviva and one direct have it as part of their terms of business that your car must not be a honda with variable valve timing.

I think this restricts you to gen 1 honda crv. ... except they are all over 15 years old now. Gulp. Yeah, I said it ... A fifteen year old car. Tis a wonder we weren't all killeded stone dead.

Anyway, what I was trying to say is that irish insurers are basically supplied with risk information by an enclosed order of nuns, so you actually may have trouble insuring a 2L petrol Accord.
You'd probably be an American insurance companies equivalent of Susan the 43yr old accountant with the new Yaris in wexford. But in ireland you're sure to be trying to emulate GTA on a daily basis.

They send you a piece of paper but gave you ever had to ask them to pay out... you've violated one of their basic assumptions for cover.

Yes I know it's ridiculous and they probably mean some types of vtec not all vtec, but I just like to highlight the codology the industry comes out with. Don't get me started on the fatwa on "non standard audio equipment"!

It's not inconceivable that the op would be refused cover by Maire Headset for having "the vtec". Being explicitly stated at the start of the quote process, it has far more legal standing than the commonly misunderstood but rarely written piseogs about 3rd party extension!

It's an S2000 and I'm 26 but my broker had no issues. I assume my broker will be at fault if they don't pay out! :P

I never had any issues insuring mine and vtec came up whenever I entered the reg into online insurance quotes.

Haven't looked into insurance yet, fingers crossed there not too bad.

Do these come standard with cruise control ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,113 ✭✭✭Gavman84

Yes it is standard on them. Handy was first car I had with it! But don't really need it with the journeys I do now.

I thought it wasn't standard on the base SE/SR model, only on the Sport/Type S and Exec.
