After a few year running done a few HM's on the road this year and looking for a challenge and looking to do some trail running also this year. Was planning on doing the Debra Wicklow Challenge half marathon in March as a good hard challenge but clashes with a trip I have planned.

Anyways, any pointers for newbie on the trails?

Get stuck in and do a few of the Winter League races. You could target the Wicklow Way Trail at the end of March. It's more or less half-marathon distance so would be a good alternative to the DEBRA race.

Interesting to see the Sugar Bowl at the start of the summer, and Mullaghmeen up early too.

I'm thinking about having a go at some of the imra races in 2017. I did Run the line last week, what would that score on the difficulty scale? Just trying to figure out which ones I'd be able for.

They'll tend to be a bit shorter but with a bit more climbing involved. Each of the imra races are rated from 1 - 10 with 1 being the easiest and 10 being the most difficult. It's based on a few criteria (distance, ascent and terrain)....I'd say the short course RTL would rate a 7 out of 10 on the imra scale

After doing run the line you'd have no problems at the winter or summer league races at all. Can't recommend then highly enough.

You'd be able for any of them if you did Run the Line. Most of the winter races are shorter than RTL and contain similar amounts of climbing. Annagh is the only one that I would say is considerably tougher then RTL but as it comes at the end of the league you'll be a hardened mountain runner by then!

If you can do run the line, you'll be grand. It'd be around a 7 or 8 on the difficulty scale. Probably closer to 8.

You will be able to do any of the spring and Leinster leagues races no problem.

Just the championship races you'd need to assess first.

You'll be well able to do any of the races currently on the calendar up to March 5th. Annagh Hill is tough but it's doable.
