Car for 1-2 Months

I suspect I might be carless for a few weeks when I change jobs soon until I buy my own one, and I'm wondering how best to fill this gap!
Does anyone have any recommendations or similar experience?
Do the rental companies do deals for 4+ weeks?
I don't suppose garages with second hand cars ever lease them out?
Might it make sense to pick up an ancient cheap car for that period and sell on? (probably high risk though I guess)

I had a quick look on carsondemand.ie and got a quote of something like € 1K ex vat for an MPV for a month!!!

(looking at a family car ideally an MPV)

Wait until next year, then inquire about it, Xmas and new years eve is a busy period for rental companies. January, February however is considered dead so you can make a good deal if you find a company that leases for 4 weeks+. You have a better chance getting a good price by stating you`d take the car for 8 weeks instead of 4 weeks and then another 4 weeks.

For an MPV expect to pay top dollar as companies don`t usually stock lots of them, you`d be better off getting a quote on a Focus or similar, maybe an estate.

Yep you really will get a rental from hertz or any of the hire companies for buttons once the holiday period is over.

Actually yeah an estate would be grand for a while, might try that. Only problem is timing as I'd need it by Jan 8th.
