    Hi,

Right now I'm around 50 cents more than a minimum wage - 8.65 now.
From the new year, when hourly rate go up to 9.15 I will be 3 cents more than minimum.

As a team, we asked HR if we can expect any salary increase from January 2016, she said that Citizen Information state that our Shift Allowance is included to my hourly pay.
Nowhere on CI website I couldn't find that info.

We work 12 hrs shifts, 48 hrs first week and 36 hrs second week, days, nights, very intensive job, very physical work and it is very hard to understand why from January 16 we will be work for less.
Sorry, just needed to say that...

I thought shift allowance is on the top of my basic, and shouldn't be calcualted to my hourly pay.

    Would you advice please.

    Best regards,
    Sab

Is your hourly rate staying the same?

As for shift premiums, there is nothing in law about them being required to be paid according to Citizens Information

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/employment_rights_and_conditions/hours_of_work/night_work.html
Pay rates and leave for night workers are not covered by the Organisation of Working Time Act. These depend on the terms of the night worker's contract of employment.

    What shift allowance?

Is that for me or the OP? I presume it's the OP?

    The OP.

They appear to have made an assumption that their rate of pay = minimum wage plus shift allowance.

Maybe that's what their contract says.

Or maybe it's not. Only they can tell us.

But "shift allowance" isn't a standard part of any legal pay minimum I've heard of.

I work continuously, since I start taht job, 12 hours shift. 1 week for 48 hrs and another of 36 hrs, a month of days and 1 month of nights.

My contract says: Basic + Shift Allowance.

I contacted Citizen Information and got information, that shift premium, bonuses, etc are on top of the basic and shouldn't be calculated when it comes to clarify hourly rate.

how much does your contract say your basic hourly rate is and how much your shift allowance is? Does it have seperate figures in for both?

It should do; I'm in in similar situation and the basic and the allowance is spelled out in the contract

I know that's why I'm asking, as it's not clear from the OP

    Hi,

Yes, my contract state seperetae figures: basic + shift allowance 30%.

20.500 basic and 6000 shift allowance.

Am I calculate that wrongly that from new Year I will be earning the minimum then?

Even if yes, my employee want give anything extra to that.
    It's just sad....:(

Thanks for all your help with this.

Thanks for all your help with this.

Your posts are a bit confusing to be honest, it's hard to understand what you mean.

So your basic pay is 20,500 and a shift allowance of 6000 which is well over the minimum wage.

So your monthly pay if you are paid monthly should total gross of 1,708.33 basic and 500 shift allowance.

If you are paid weekly it should be 394.23 basic gross and 115.38

If those are the figures on your payslip then you are being paid correctly.

If your question whether you should get a pay increase as the minimum wage is increasing but your basic pay is not?

    Sorry for being confusing.

I'm paid average for 84 hrs every second week.

What will be my pay per hour without shift allowance then?

    Thank You

Approx. €9.38, so still above the new minimum wage of €9.15.

If you think that because the minimum wage is going up that you should be entitled to a raise in your pay per hour, you are incorrect.

This is another story if we all here should get more to what we earn now. Being technician, taking more jobs, all the time on our feet, working intensive for 12 hrs, we probably should.

I wanted to make sure that Shift allowance is on the top of basic and not added to my basic as my hourly rate, which HR easily said .

Thank you for all and Merry Christmas.
