    Woooops

Heard of lads using a ratchet strap about 11 inches over the base it's supposed to stop them

We do that over the feed barriers to stop calls getting out aswell, simple and cheap job.
Would to the trick instead of buying a new one

They climb into the middle alright, but some just get stuck 1/2 ways in. Drives me mad as their pregnant ewes.

Note to self. Never buy one of those

I have the square type with the roof. Good job .

Another vote for the racket strap, have a few feeders with the horizontal bars and overall height is low and an odd sheep manages to jump straight up on bale, very annoying?

Wouldn't be gone on them tbh. Firstly, the price of them compared to the round ones with no roof is big and secondly I think that yes the roof keeps the bale dry but all the water then runs off it onto the sheets beck/neck when they're eating

Tried this, with some wire and grapples. A cheap fix hopefully, but not sure if will sratch galvanising off frame. No sheep climbing in yet.

Ya, there's not as much waste as it looks in pic. Normally they'd have the bale gone in a day but I put them into a set aside field the other day with a nice bit of grass, so their only picking at the silage since.

Been trying to get the ould lad to chop the bales here for the last few years. But he keeps saying that they'd waste too much outside.

The vast majority of the waste here would be from spots of mould found when opening bales (which I pull out ). Have only had chopped silage here, but haven't noticed much waste from chopping.Having said that, I'd respect each man for having their own way of doing things and what suits them best.

We get an odd one with this happening but we use a different type of feeder and find it pretty good once we have made the modifications.
For indoor use we put in a floor and 9x1's on top to stop them jumping up.
For outdoor use we do the same plus put on a roof.
Will try to attach pics below.

This is a handy way to feed sheep. Make sure to tie the wire together at the bottom forming a V.
