I filled it up with lies after they (CSO) mis-reported what farmer's net income was. I think they said the gross output was net income, now I'm not 100% sure, so don't go misquoting me:D

After a few years of me telling them I grew 600 acres of spuds and had 800 sows, the penny dropped and they gave up sending out the forms.

The only statistic that matters to farmers is becoming less valuable every year.

The phrase "lies, damn lies and statistics" comes to mind with those forms.

What statistic is that...the one that's becoming less valuable

a lot of researchers, scientists, engineers, etc etc etc require that data for various projects. data collection of this type is extremely important. even though i hate doing surveys myself so i can understand the frustration in doing them

    LOL

A bit guesswork needed questions like land under roadways buildings bog water etc. (I have a few extra lakes at the moment)

    Silage cut tons/ acre

Questions about "temporary grassland" silage first second and hay cut etc. whatever temporary grassland is (the explanatory letter does not come with second or third form)

    Turf drawn cereals harvested

Suppose it is not that bad.
Initial raging anger at seeing this form in post might have been a overreaction.

Why don't they just get it from the dept of ag? Same way as larry is able to get cattle numbers.

Data can only be used for the purpose for which it was collected. The depth of Ag cannot give out this info....

The only breach to this seems to be our profit monitor figures......They seem to be everywhere. ....

In the sense that that statistic is becoming less valuable in monetary terms but valuable in sense that it highlights the economic difficulties being experienced in some farming sectors.

I was getting that one for years and nobody else round here had even heard of it.

About 5 years ago, I filled it in and wrote in red across the whole 4 pages that I wasn't filling it in any more. They sent one onto me again and I sent it back unfilled.

    Never got one again.
