Duty free question

    Hi there,

In a few days I'll be travelling to Toronto via Philadelphia with American Airlines. I'm travelling from Dublin to Philadelphia with American Airlines, and then from Philadelphia to Toronto with some regional carrier affiliated with American Airlines. I'm not sure if I will have to reclaim my baggage in Philadelphia. If I buy alcohol in Dublin's duty-free, will I be able to bring it to Toronto? Will it be taken off me in Philadelphia?

They'll tell you at check-in if your baggage is being checked through all the way. If you booked the fliights as one journey then I'd assume it would be.

If that's the case, the duty free shop will put your booze into a sealed bag which you don't open until you reach your ultimate destination.

    Thanks, HeidiHeidi.

I booked my flights as one journey via American Airlines, and the third-party carrier flight from Philadelphia to Toronto appears on my booking as an American Airlines flight.

I had wondered about the sealed bag. I've had such bags used before, but never on a connecting flight. I just don't want to spend a few hundred euro on whiskey in Dublin airport and have it taken off me in Philadelphia.

I had that experience coming from South America back to Ireland via Madrid. H
Literally hundreds-worth of Clarins smellies and wine and gin (between a few of us) went in the bins in Madrid airport

I recently flew to Africa via Frankfurt and was offered the sealed bag when they saw my final destination.
