Hi Guys, my sister in law bought her car in Ireland 3/4 years ago, Irish Reg. 2 years ago she moved to UK and paid to transfer plates to UK reg. 2016 she is returning back to Ireland.

Will Customs demand any payment for transferring back to Irish plates?

No. Provided she didn't claim vrt back 2 years ago

The car will even get the previous Irish registration number.

There will be no VRT payable (unless reclaimed) as other posters have said, we brought a car back in early 2014 and it got the original registration back.

Be prepared, however, for a lot of confusion in VROs as to what actually has to happen as nobody at that time seemed to know the exact process, unless it has tightened up since then. From memory I think we sent a letter to Shannon and they reissued the cert.
