Avensis 2006 - Spare Wheel Question

    Evening all

I've just taken delivery of a 2006 Avensis Strata - so far happy with the car. I hadn't realised they had a spacesaver spare...and I have a serious aversion to them. Should it be OK to buy a same-size steel wheel from a non-alloy Avensis ?. Current alloys are 205/55x16...and the Aura model has normal steel wheels and I'm sure I could find one as a spare. My googling took me to HonestJohn...and there are confusing posts on this subject.

I'm only looking to use as a replacement for the spacesaver...in emergency mode only.

    Thanks for any info,
    K.

PS. I'm aware of the actual space issue in the boot but an comfortable a full-size spare will fit OK.

Keep your eye on Adverts,ie always plenty of wheels on there, or visit your local scrappy.

A normal 16 inch wheel will definitely fit. I have one in my own Avensis, as has my brother in his one.

Not a DIY effort, moved to main forum.

Originaly, the diesels had a spacesaver and petrol had full size, then later they all got spacesavers.
A full size Avensis wheel will obviously fit in the well, but from memory, you will need to trim a bit off the top of the foam insert that sits into the wheel. No big deal.

Wheels from an 07 onwards Corolla or an 05 onwards Corolla Verso, or indeed the 09 onwards Avensis will not do as they have a different stud pattern despite being 16" and 5 stud.

Wheels from the Avensis Verso or the older 97-03 Avensis, or even a Carina E will also do, but given that you have an Aura model with steel wheels, you may as well get a 100% matching steel wheel from an identical model.

    Pretty much covered there.

Would like to add the 2.2 and 2.0 d4d have different stud patterns. Steel wheels are highly sought after so you may pay a premium for a good used one
