Fuel gauge issue

Hey, my fuel gauge isn't working correctly, it drops to empty just as the tank passes the halfway mark. Tank still has juice in it, just not reading the lower half of it.

Any ideas to a resolution? Its a 05 Lancer.

Brim it every time you fill up and set your distance clock to zero. That way you'll know from experience how much you have left

Realistically either the sensor in the tank or the gauge is faulty, probably the sensor. On a 10 year old Lancer I wouldn't be going to a main dealer with this, any competent independent garage should have no problem fixing it.

Ya no main dealers on a car this age, my usual guy is pretty good, was hoping for an easy home fix :)

If you always go more than a week without refuelling then just get into the habit of brimming it first thing every Monday morning or another routine you can stick to. Along with zeroing the trip every fill you shouldn't ever run dry.

Maybe the car has a low level light also which might work independent of the petrol gauge
