How long do planning permission appeals usually take?

    Asking on behalf of someone.

They want to get an attic conversion, had the plans drawn up & submitted & it was passed with the commission of the dormer they need to access the space (which seemed strange - yes you can convert, but you can't get into it).

They have a hipped roof and need to put on a side dormer (30+ y/o house), have submitted an appeal on the grounds that the permission granted doesn't give them access to the new space. Have supplied photos of other houses in the area with different rooflines etc. Cheque was cashed the other day so process has started, they just don't know how long it takes.

    6 months give or take.
On the boards website, it will give you a decision date for their appeal.

Unfortunately there is no statutory time limit for appeals. I think An Bord Pleanala target is approx. 4 months/16 weeks to deal with/decide on appeals.

In the past, I have had appeals decided in 3 months...to 18 months!

Our first one took a year (they extended it as it was for an overall development so more complex) 2nd time (same bloody house) 5.5 months
