Just a query on the above. Have been getting trouble with rotavirus in calves for the last few years. Have been vaccinating for I'd say 20yrs. Tried Trivacton 6 and am back on K99 last year. All done correctly and in time. The symptons are calves flying along til about 6 weeks when you start to notice dung starting to change colour in oldest batch of calves ie greys and greens and then to scour. All older calves get scoury and dirty and probably lose appetite. This the moves down to smaller calves. Generally might lose 2or 3 from 150 but lots of calves sick and lots of time used up. Dead ones sent to lab and rota is the only thing shows up. No crypto ecoli or any thing else.
Wreck your head every year. Plenty of beestings fed and hygiene is good. Cows done for lepto bvd salmonella and ibr. Calves vac for salmonella also after 3 weeks.
Going to order vaccinations this week. Was wondering as a last resort is this stuff Spillanes sell any good or just a waste of money. Was talking to him at ploughing said it would cure all! At 11 euro per head it would want to. Never had anything to do with homeopathy but wouldn't have a whole lot of faith in it. Any one use it or any other ideas? TIA

Test the scour. Your vet will be able to do it handy enough
I'm very skeptical about plant extract stuff, unless they can show you results from research reach for the salt

Tested scour and rota is all about that's showing up . I'm pretty sceptical about Spillane stuff as well but just wondering on the off chance had anyone used it to good effect

How long after birth do they get the treated biestings for? I give them the rotavec biestings for almost 2 weeks- thats what it says on the label. Disenfect with interkokask, calves also get halocur for 3 days after birth and bovicox at 2 weeks old. Everything is covered then, Didnt do autumn calves with halocur this year and it worked out ok, they were born outside

On vets advice here we give 3x4mls each day for 3 days so 12ml for 3 days. Has worked so far

used the spillanes bolus last year for the first time.I had a problem with salmonella the year before meant to inject some of the cows but never got around to it.
was worried so chanced the bolus had no trouble with salmonella but had with cocciddiosis later on.
In the finish only used one bolus instead of the two recommended

Do you feed hay? Hay great to get gut going.
I notice you never mentioned coccidiosis . Would be worth maybe dosing a few cases just to see if there is an improvement.
Also, can you separate them into smaller groups, different sheds to stop it spreading.
