Claiming travel insurance on Ryanair flights

I have flights booked with ryanair but due a medical problem I can't use them, their site says I can change them but not cancel them, what paper work will I need to furnish the travel insurance company with, to prove I didn't use the flights? I know that I have to produce a medical cert but is a copy of the original flight booking enough?

    Thanks

Have you tried contacting the insurance company ? and asking them ? i'd imagine it would be hard for anyone here to give a definitive answer without knowing the details of your policy or more importantly the claims process of the insurance company which will differ from company to company in many cases.

    This.

Some companies claims handling procedures differ. Some handle it in-house while the likes of RSA outsource it.

In any event, you should be looking to contact whatever number your insurer provided asap and get the ball rolling on your claim. It's a long enough process without any unnecessary delay!

Thanks for advice, I was in hospital when I originally posted and phone reception/internet was very hit and miss, I have since spoke to insurance company and opened a claim, a friend of mine advised me that it was important to notify before the departure date rather than after.
