    Hi there,

My girlfriend has a 2007 1.3 petrol Honda Civic. It has 60k miles (96k kms) and is in good condition, full service history from new. It's possibly an SE model - so principal features are 15" alloy wheels and electric windows front and rear. The car is in very good condition (a few paint marks in line with it's age) and has a 2 year NCT with nearly new tyres (Goodyear).

She's looking to trade and wondered what a dealer would offer against a new Civic (1.6 diesel SI model) or, what would she get against a 2nd hand BMW 1 series?

She likes the 118d M sport (2014 asking c. 30k) or the new Civic si (28k new). Very different cars I know but budget a factor ultimately.

Commute is about 40 miles/day so a diesel would suit her but wanted to know the likely book value of a trade in or whether she'd be better trying to sell privately?

    Thanks all.

Prices of them used seem to have gone bananas. id sell privately as you could get €6k-7k private if it's in good nick and get a discount on the new car.

the new civic might be a bit of a disappointment though. there are some improvements in areas like refinement but it isn't the leap forward it should have been.

The new civic i like. I expected more from it myself but it's still a very good car. The 1.6 diesel being good but nothing amazing from a diesel that small

Still much rather it over the BMW

I would say your looking at a figure of €5k , trade in book value from a dealer for your 2007 Civic.

Might be higher if your buying a new Civic from dealer.

In fairness it was replacing an already great car so it would of been difficult to improve it that much more. The only things I don't like about it is the rear styling and the high performance type r not having independent rear suspension.

The sill on the boot is way higher for a start, I wallopped my knee off the dash as it sticks out at the end. driving position was off.
my point is the old model was a very good car with some very fixable drawbacks. apart from better sound deadening and the new 1.6 engine I can't see that they've put much effort in. it's effectively a dumbed down reskin IMHO
