My husband is a state pensioner and receives 100 euros Qualified Adult allowance per week for me. I am thinking of doing a CE scheme but to do this I would have to register myself and transfer the payment to me alone. I am worried that if I do this and I don't like the scheme or when it finishes we will lose the 100 euros payment, would it be a risk?

It's not always that easy to get onto a CE scheme. I was turned down at two interviews.

If you happen to get accepted and 62 years old or over you can now stay on it till you reach pension age yourself.

When the scheme time is over you will go back to your original payment as a qualified adult.

Did you manage to get one in the end?

No, I didn't get onto one.

I was offered one though, but too far away and I had no transport so could not take it.

I understand, my only worry was if I did happen to get one and did not like it I would have trouble getting my QA back.

I think it is a good idea to apply for some CE positions. Some of them are very interesting jobs and because you are a QA you would be seen in a different light from people who are sent from the JA office to the interviews. At the interview you can ask as many questions as you like and meet other people who are on the scheme before committing yourself. You lose nothing by just going to the interview.

    Good luck, whatever you decide.

I don't think that is available any more. Your best bet is to go to your local DSP Office and ask.

Should you qualify for a CE Scheme, obtain a position and then drop out of it your payment would be reinstated to you as a separate claimant - or perhaps you could go back to being on a QA payment.

What you really need to check out is how long you have to be in receipt of your own payment before you become eligible for a CE Scheme. The time spent as a QA on your husband's payment will not count towards that eligibility period. The wait could be up to three years but best check it out at the Dept of Social Protection. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/unemployment_and_redundancy/employment_support_schemes/community_employment_scheme.html

Apparently you need to be receiving the payment for 1 year, and FAS said it was o.k. to be on my husbands payment, gosh confused now.

If they said it is ok, then go for it!
