Lads mags all ceasing

I have never been a fan of these so called lads mags - Zoo, Nuts and FHM. Still, I am surprised to hear that they have all ceased publication. Are the grubbier mags taking their market share, or is the internet to blame?

When a simple Internet search can show you boobies, who needs magazine's

They're not all gone. Just most of them.

    I bet it's that Varadkar bastard's fault.

Last I checked FHM and Maxim were still selling good numbers so I doubt they have ceased just yet.

But if most people claim to buy them for the good in-depth articles then I fail to see how free internet porn could be impacting on their sales!

Even though it's because the internet has eliminated a substantial chunk of print consumers, I'm still going to blame the feminists.

There was a campaigner from Britain interviewed on NewsTalk or Today FM (can't remember which) last week and she was tooting her own horn about how this was a great victory for them. Bollox. Don't give 'em the satisfaction!

I'm not sure about ceasing but any time I've had any of them they've always ended up sticking!

Did the person have a peer reviewed study correlating Feminist actions and the drop in sale of these magazines.. Wait I think I know the Answer. :pac:

Print in general is having a bit of a hard time lately in case nobody noticed. If all you're offering is sh*te articles and topless pictures of women then you're not in with much of a chance now are you?

FHM ceased publishing on 17th November last.

Maxim is still on the go

I'm glad you clarified that by saying "pink" - I honestly had no idea what you were talking about up to that point.

"Retro Ford" has shut the whole lot of them down. Today's bearded, duffle-coated young-fella-me-wotsit about town is tugging the head off it to exploded diagrams of Type 9 gearboxes, ZVH Mk. III Cortinas and rat-infested Poplars. Rock on! :D

I think men in their 30s and 40s out buying magazines mainly for the purpose of seeing heavily airbrushed and photoshopped women in little or no clothes is rather sad on so many levels.

Once you have seen Lucy Pinder naked why buy a second copy? And if the mags are just churning oout the same jokes and pointless articles inbetween naked women, then it all becomes pointless.

I used to buy FHM then it got filled with fashion, then I would pick up Nuts or Zoo here or there, not all the time but either they got crapper or I got older, whichever was the cause I just found their content was the same repeated childish bull**** so stopped bothering

No more FHM? How will I now be able to tell who the one hundred sexiest women on earth are on an annual basis?

    Glazers Out!

Let's be frank here. If you are going to have a pedal and crank, you'd probably choose something stronger than Nuts or FHM. That's probably why they're on the way out. You can get whatever you want online anyway

Exactly, you do grow out of them. I used to buy them monthly. I'd be more likely to buy FourFourTwo now.

Surprised that their demise was not sooner tbh.

Also amazes me that sex shops are still open. How they make enough money to meet their overheads each week is baffling. The only time I myself have ever frequented one was in the late 90s (when jpegs took three days to download) to buy Pam & Tommy's honeymoon video but had I had the option of downloading it in the peace and quiet of my bedroom, of course I would have done so. Was morto buying it. Started telling the guy I was big Motley Crue fan. Who goes into these places and buys porn, sex toys and the like when they could get it cheaper and more discreetly online? Weirdos, that's who. But are there really enough weirdos knocking about to keep these people in business? Evidently there are. Well, it's weird. Satisfy your inner pervert online like normal people ffs!

Sometimes it's easier to judge the girth and length of a toy by giving it a good feel and you can't do that online :p

FHM never really moved with their audience, they try to keep onto the teenage/early 20 market. They made an attempt at going a bit more grown up a year or so ago and then reverted to type soon after. They were a handy way to pass a plane journey.

Some of those mags are ridiculous though, looking at GQ and Esquire mainly, it's a glorified list of adverts.

I used to love it myself but the last few years of publication it was just Loaded/FHM with heavier eyeliner on the models and pictures of severed limbs.

Retro Gamer & Read Retro FTW!

Only mags I buy, ever. Who the **** in the last 15 years buys a 'lads mag' to look at boobs!?

As said before, print media is on the way out for a long long time, it's only speciality magazines that kinda sell now. And newspapers still sell I guess.

There was a big difference in the quality of writing in the likes of Maxim and Nuts. I used to buy Maxim about 15 years ago. Some good writing in it, no full naked women at the time.

Nuts is like a glossy version of The Sun. I think its core readership grew old and got smartphones.

There's a reason why Playboy and Maxim keep going, a lot of it is to do with the quality of the articles in the magazine.

Ye I haven't seen it over the last few years. I recall a very funny section where this guy used to review porn. Somehow his reviews ended up never actually relating to the porno at all. He was very funny though.

It's pretty empty self congratulation on her part. The reason the Loaded's of this world died a death has nothing to do with on-line porn or campaigning feminisim and more to do with the death of the 90's Lad-Laddette culture for which Loaded was it's fanzine.
Like most fads and trends had it's innings, reached it's zenith and then fell out of fashion and became no more relevent to anybody then wether or not Blur and Oasis still hate each other.
There's just no market for the tedious repetitive juvenilia that they represented, if there was they would still be in publication. I saw an interview a while back with the editor of Loaded who basically said that it died becaue everybody involved just got bored with producing it.
I suspect that the only person that misses Nuts and Zoo is said campaigner who now has lost her favourite thing to campaign against, she could do with moving on like the rest of us.

I liked Bizarre when it first came out, because it was interesting, but then it seemed to morph into a dodgy bondage top shelf mag for some reason
