Why not use your Postcode? God knows we waited long enough for its introduction.
...my post 'seems to have' sped up since I started using it.

Did he give you any sort of tracking number? At this time of year delivery times can be a little slower. Six days from Canada to UK during December is unusual, and shouldn't be used as a general rule.

And packets generally take longer than letters. Letters are sorted by machines, packets/packages by people.

ETA: Is it a high value item coming from Canada? If so, it could be stuck in customs. If you have any tracking numbers for either the Canada parcel or the one coming from Dublin, PM me, I'll find them for you.

That package goes to UK first then on to here, so much longer to here. Is it an item that could be delayed at customs?

My experience of postage from Canada is that it's fricking awful.

It took 6 months for a postage with regular postage on it to get here. The person in Canada who post it said that length of time is not uncommon.

There is 2 types of standard mail.Air takes normally 1 to 2 weeks while Surface Mail can take 4 to 6 months if i am correct.

It doesn't matter if the value was declared or not, if it was collared by customs they'll charge you accordingly for whatever is inside. If it's already in the country customs is where your package is. And yes, you definitely should have asked for tracked delivery for something of that value!

Are you in Laois? If you're comfortable giving details I will find out if it's in the Portlaoise Mail centre for you.

Customs can hardly open the package if there is not customs declaration on it can they?If its seized or being held in customs would you be notified? They can hardly put a value on good themselves?
If it does not turn up i might take up on that offer thanks :)

They'll open whatever they like to be honest, whether there's a declaration form/sticker on it or not! Regular air mail (like your package from Canada) is usually just sampled when it arrives in bulk as it's seen to be less likely to be valuable than something that has been registered or expressed from outside Europe. However, what with it being Christmas there would be a larger sampling of air mail postage.

This is a double-edged sword for you, because if it has gone through customs, An Post will attach a registered number to your package and then it can be traced, but with your item being worth 300 quid, as you say, then it'll be a hefty customs charge. If it hasn't gone through customs and your item is lost, then you're looking at a needle in a haystack scenario.

It usually takes a few days to be processed through customs, and it'll be longer at this time of year. The item is valued and the cost to the recipient (you) will be calculated. Then the items are passed on to An Post staff who register them, re-sort them and send them out for delivery.

Personally I'd give it until next Monday before I started to worry, but if it doesn't turn up and you want me to look into it for you, I certainly will.

It used to be sooo much easier to do. Now you walk into the Customs areas in the mail centres and the bang of weed coming from the place is intense. :D
