Chemical flavorings found in e-cigarettes linked to lung disease

The compounds reported in that article have been removed by most responsible producers.

Also these compounds are also produced at much much higher levels in cigarette smoking - up to a 100 times higher! My choice has been to avoid them completely but even with some exposure there really is nothing to be concerned about.

    Some research on this:

A new study was published today in the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research, evaluating the presence of two inhalation toxins (diacetyl and acetyl propionyl) in e-cigarette liquids. Researchers, led by Dr Konstantinos Farsalinos from the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center in Athens-Greece, obtained 159 e-liquid samples (all sweet-flavoured) from 36 manufactures and 7 countries (6 European and the US). They tested them for the presence of diacetyl and acetyl propionyl. These two chemicals are ingredients of flavourings and, although safe for use in food, have been associated with the development of respiratory dysfunction when inhaled.

The study found that 74.2% of the samples contained either diacetyl or acetyl propionyl, with more samples containing diacetyl. The levels were on average slightly lower than currently-established safety limits (set by NIOSH), but more than 40% of the samples had higher than safety levels. Of note, the highest amount of diacetyl found was 495 times higher than safety limits, while for acetyl propionyl it was 22 times higher. Tobacco cigarettes smoke contains both compounds, at levels 100 times higher for diacetyl and 10 times higher for acetyl propionyl compared to e-cigarette average daily exposure.

This is why I started vaping un-flavoured about 6 months ago. Too many mad flavours being thrown into e-juice, and you have no idea what they are. The ingredients on the bottle usually have nothing more than: "Propylene Glycol, Vegetable Glycerin, Nicotine, Natural or Artifical flavours."

Not only does vaping unflavoured lower the risk of surprise cancer ingredients, it also lowers the monthly cost of vaping, and lowers the stress of trying to find that perfect flavour.

If you could put up with the filth of 20 Benson per day, un-flavoured juice should be fine for you as long as there's enough nicotine in it.

I'm just dreading the new research that shows Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin cause arse cancer or something. But for now it seems I'm safe enough. In fact it might cleanse my arse as Propylene Glycol has some antibacterial properties.

So what brand of juice do you vape?
I only use tobacco flavoured.. But I'm still concerned about what's in any ejuice.
A year off the real cigs now but I'm not ready to stop vaping for fear of sliding back onto the dreaded smokes.I still need that crutch so to speak.

Compared to smoking there really is no comparison risk wise vaping any old crap that's out there. As a harm reduction tool for the die hard smoker it's a life saver.

Nicotine, PG and VG are considered very safe and are not carcinogenic at all. There is much research over a long period of time on these compounds. Even full on overdose animal testing for inhalation cytotoxic effects found no issues with PG and VG - they left animals in sealed rooms and pumped the stuff in continuously (yeah nice  ).

Lowest absolute risk vape wise is no flavour and lower again would be a no heat spray like inhaler.

I make my own juice to control as much of this as possible and avoid any of the controversial ingredients. I get to vape some lovely flavoured juice and know what goes in it.

It's the sausages that give you arse cancer. I'm not giving them up. ;)

I don't really vape any "brand". I vape base liquid. It's the raw basic DIY stuff you buy to add your own flavour to. Instead of adding flavour, I just vape it. Cloud House Vapour is where I buy it.

    From mtbakervapor:

"To summarize, studies like those conducted above show that there is a significantly higher amount of diacetyl exposure from smoking than there is in the factories where the production workers got sick, presumably (but not proven to be) due to exposure to diacetyl inhalation. There are no documented cases of popcorn-lung being developed from smoking. Considering that studies show, as indicated above, that the amount of diacetyl in analog cigarettes is 110 times higher than amounts found in the e-liquids tested, and there are no cases of diacetyl related sickness from smoking, I would conclude that the levels of diacetyl found in some of the e-cig juices are relatively safe."

Been doing the same for a while now also,I found the flavours just weren't working for me anymore plus its much easier on coils and cotton,no gunk build up and a 500ml bottle for €17 will last me about 3/4 months. :)

You're right, coils also last much longer with the unflavoured stuff.

Been smoking base 70% VG for the past few days now. A bit strange at first but once you get used to it its grand. Probably the closet taste to tobacco that I found :)

Been looking at the stuff on picknmix.
    Which one do you recommend?Looking for a 6mg 100%vg.
Cant seem to find the strengths on that site.

Also if I but a 50mg nicotine base how much more vg do I add to it to make it around 5-6 mg?

Would I be right in saying that if its 100ml of 50mg adding another 100ml will make it 25mg and so on?
    Or is that too simple?
