Car Insurance Question

I just got my quote for next year and the policy has increased by 45%. No claims bonus is 10+ years, Full license 10 + years, Zero penalty points.

I drive a 2000 BMW - I just found out that there is a new rule with insurance firms refusing cars older than 15 years. It looks like my long term insurance company is cashing in as they know I have limited options.

I guess my question is, is this legal ? Seems grossly unfair.

That's not a bad quote at all, no need for the mock outrage. It's up everywhere across the board and you're pretty lucky with such a small absolute increase (note: not relative). Don't need to look too far from here to see first hand one of the contributing factors to the recent round of increases - the amount of threads in the last 3 months advocating breaking/bending the law relating to insurance risk disclosure, fraudulent claims, "I deserve it" attitudes etc - and we wonder why the business is so fcuked.

Mine increased by more than 100% to over €7,000!

Just ring around. I do the dance every year.

It takes about an hour to go through about 10 online forms to see who's giving the cheapest options. Pretty much every year for the last 5 years I've switched providers.

The only thing is to make sure you keep all the letters showing your no claims history. The new providers usually need this proof.

When you're looking around make sure you're ready for the phone calls. They'll all start ringing you to see if they can "help". I normally just tell them that I'll be going with X as it's cheaper than them. They're not usually able to match the cheapest one you'll find.

do you drive more then 6000km a year? if not, then a classic insurance may be suitable. I pay 400 a year fot my 97 840 bmw, same as it was on my old 93 740 with aig. and it's my only and daily car, car needs to be 15 years or older.

Hi Faith+1, Nicola here I just popped over from the Bank of Ireland talk to forum.

There are a number of factors that will be taken into account when calculating your car insurance quote. At the moment we've an offer where you could get up to 25% off your car insurance, you can find out more about this here.

Feel free to drop by our talk to forum if you have any questions, thanks.
    Nicola
