As a counter to the "worst comedians" thread, let's all post bits from comedians we love, particularly ones you think may not be so well known.

    To start:

    Patton Oswalt

    Natasha Leggero

    Jimmy Pardo

    Paul F. Tompkins

Pity he doesn't do stand up.

Kevin Bridges is a funny fcuker.

Pryor, Chapelle, Reginald D Hunter, Hicks, Boyle, Louis CK, Gervais, Moran for stand up off the top of my head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,346 ✭✭✭King George VI

Louis CK is one of the finest comedians I've ever seen. Brilliant story teller, which is the backbone of being a great comedian in my eyes.

Edit: Also an honorable mention to Johnny Carson.

Louis CK, Aziz Anzari and Mitch Hedberg.

I really need to get into some Bill Burr. I've heard him on podcasts and what have you, and he's a funny guy, need to check out more.

Rich Hall. One of the best comedians around, and a talented musician too.

Plus one for Bill Burr. Old man face is one of the funniest things ever.

Louis CK, Dave Atell, Jim Jim Jefferies, Mitch Hedburg, Doug Stanhope, Anthony Jeselnik, Stewart Francis, Demetri Martin, Mike Birbiglia, Billy Connolly in his prime and Jimmy Carr.

The current Netflix special, I'm Sorry You Feel That Way, is genius.

Ricky Gervais is getting a hard time in the other thread, I think he is brilliant.
Jim Jeffries is pretty great too, I loved his TV show more than his stand-up.

Joey Diaz. This is probably my favourite stand up set I've ever seen, can't do it justice with words so if you have some time spare today it's well worth a watch!

Edit: This one is well worth a watch too!

Comedy is probably the only industry where you can have two conflicting threads and find the exact same names given in each.

Anthony Jeselnik - Don't watch if easily offended

    Jim Jefferies

    Doug Stanhope

    Mitch Hedburg

Can't post links or anything, but in no order, Stewart Lee, Dara O'Briain, Bill Burr, Mitch Hedberg, Dylan Moran, Patton Oswalt and Louis CK.

Especially if you ignore music and film and the other ones.

Part Troll was a great live show but Dandelion Mind was absolute muck.

    Stewart Francis.

Rich Hall. One of the best comedians around, and a talented musician too.

He probably the only comedian I can stand doing the singing gimmick.

Others have been mentioned; Doug Stanhope...the comedian Frankie Boyle wishes he could be. His gig in Vicar Street a few weeks ago was brilliant.

    Bill Burr.

    Rhod Gilbert.

    Dave Gorman

Jim Jeffries. A lot of Legit is ripped straight from his stand up shows but it works so much better as a TV show.

Foil, Arms and Hog. Saw them this year in Vicar Street and it's the hardest I've laughed at anything.

Dave Allen is one of the best comedians I have seen, greatly missed.

Here's a sample. Loads more on You Tube to be enjoyed.

Tom Stade, has to be one of my favourites after randomly seeing him do a charity event years ago.

Some people call Bill Burr the poor man's Louis CK, but I think he is far better than him.

Dylan Moran I love, but I was unlucky enough to catch him on an off night at the start of a run in Vicar Street…still better than most even off-form.

Love Rich Hall and Bill Bailey in music mode. Like me a bit of Mickey Flanagan, though he can be a bit repetitive.

    …love him!

Doug Stanhope and Dylan Moran are probably my favourites at the moment. Hicks, Carlin and Hedberg were all great as well and sadly missed.

For a slightly lesser known comedian (well at least I think he is), Ron White is worth a mention.

This is my favourite Chappelle bit. Not necessarily a closer for a HBO special but I just love how this unpolished bit about Kramer is better than 99% of comedians' best bits. The ending is fantastic.

I actually find him funny on Countdown but couldn't imagine enjoying him as a stand up. Same goes for Adam Buxton, and Jimmy Carr, and...

Dylan Moran, Bill Burr, Louis CK, Sarah Silverman, David O'Doherty, Jack Whitehall.

There are others, I just can't think of them right now.

I love Chappelle's white guy voice. It always makes me laugh

Seconding Paul F Tompkins. Laboring Under Delusions is a great album, part comedy part autobiography.

Still one of the best 11 minutes of Stand-up I've seen. The guts of doing this in front of a Glaswegian audience.
