DCM Novices wins my vote, not just for A/R thread of the year, but Boards thread of the year.

Thank you to all who nominated the Bohermeen Sweepstakes thread.

This for me was the hands down winner of thread of the year here for a wide variety of reasons.

This was the Athletics forum at its absolute best. This was coming off a rather dark and turbulent time on the board here - the less said about the better here. But it does serve as such a stark contrast to what happened in this thread. What started as a humble idea to raise a few quid for PALS pre school, a school that provides early intervention programs for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and snowballed into something truly wonderful. The way the majority of the community here came together to support this was nothing short of epic and it went such a long way to repairing the damage the forum had taken in the months prior.

We raised nearly €1500 for the charity - I went into it expecting / hoping for €200. Indeed I was so confident it would not reach anything like it that I stupidly agreed to wear a fancy dress costume of the forums choice if we raised €1000 - ended up running the beer mile in an Arsenal jersey and a skirt.

Over 50 boardsies either donated or participated in the event. Everyone of you should be damn proud of yourselves.

The thread itself had weeks of banter in the run up to it. Myles Splitzs (as ECOLII at the time) side bets concept proved to be a hell of a lot of fun.

On the day itself we had live updates coming in of the results as they happened. There was a real sense of community spirit here.

It was a great leveler. This forum is full of people from such a wide range of abilities and this concept allowed a wide range of talent to compete together on the day. The likes of me at the slower end competing with TRR at the faster end with charity bets riding on the result was a great thing.

And ultimately it was about running. It was everything running should be. It was about running doing a positive thing. It was about the forum doing a positive thing.

Lastly but not leastly ! The legacy of the thread. To PALS themselves the funds raised were so badly needed and so well put to use. There is talk of doing something similar next year and turning it into an annual event for the community here.

This was everything right about running and the boards athletics / running forum. Celebrate it and vote it thread of the year.

Well said P. Not that I needed your words to convince me it was Thread of the Year.

No doubt that's a great thread and almost certainly the favourite due to sheer volume of numbers (it wins almost every year), however before voting for it I'd also urge you to look at the others as well.

From my point of view there are two contenders, the bohermeen thread (for the reasons pacing mule has put forward) and the beermile thread. Both are great examples of banter and fun on the forum with absolutely no malice. Both brought posters closer together and provide loads of entertainment for everyone. I'll take my time to consider but either thread is a great example of the good things about this forum.

It's the boards equivalent of the Eurovison block voting :D

Bohermeen got my nomination and now my vote, without a doubt the best thread here by a long shot. I really hope we see something similar again next year, well done to everyone involved.

All threads there are fab threads. Don't put my hard work linking them all to waste. Look and read through them before voting.

the legends of AR link doesn't seem to work or is that just me?

That would probably be because I linked the pm it was in rather than the actual thread. :o

    Fixed.

Boards Novices Thread is like XFactor for Christmas Number 1. The only way it can be stopped is if the rest of us get together in a "Rage Against the Machine" and vote for one single thread, taking the hit for the greater good. Won't happen, so I'll just vote normally.

Legends of AR was a nice trip back into nostalgia, both in terms of the posters posting, and the posters mentioned in the thread. Lots of great memories were brought back, and I think it really was a fantastic idea for a thread.

But for me, it has to be the beer mile thread. How many threads and events can bring triathletes, ultramarathon runners, middle distance athletes and sprinters all together. The single greatest thing that has come out of A/R is the Irish Beer Mile Championships, and it is now a permanent fixture in the Irish summer athletics calendar.

I loved the Legends of A/R thread but the Bohermeen thread gets my vote. As others have said, it was a great example of a positive community spirit where almost all regular posters were involved in one way or another. Great work by PM & Myles. Would really love to see a repeat.

The photo of your garden after your training was one of the highlights of that thread :D

I voted for the beermile just because it gave me more LOL's than any other thread this year... Bohermeen was a very close second
