Yes you'll have to pay whatever the local state sales tax is. If I remember right from my last time in New York is either 9 or 10% on top of the advertised price.

Then you have to also hope that it doesnt get customs attention while your family member is bringing it back.

A safer bet would be to see how much it is on eglobalcentral.eu. Tons of members of this forum have used them with positive experiences and they're extremely well priced.
