For some reason, and I'm not sure why, but the names of these images all start with 'file'... regardless of what I named them. For example:

    Filehbo833711_f520.jpg

When I try to open it, it just says "windows can not find 'C:\Users\Dell\Downloads\hbo833711_f520'"

    Hi there,

Can you give more info on your problem, are you saving the files in right format as jpg r gif r png.

Are you actually saving them in that location when you see picture and you click save as are you saving it in that location.

Unless you give further info I can't help you maybe some one else might know bit more on it

Seems like it might be trying to access a temporary file. Are all the images you are having trouble with in your downloads folder? What size are the images showing as (filesize that is)?

    Thanks,

No, they're in a folder of my own. One of them, for example, is 231 bytes. They've been this way for quite some time now, and have been saved for quite some time before that.

I don't know, it's been quite a long time ago.

However, when I click properties of an image, usually there's 4 headings; 'general', 'security', 'details', 'previous versions'. But in this case there's an extra heading called 'web document'. Within that, there's a URL given as file:///C:/Users/Dell/Downloads/hbo833711_f520.jpg

It was never saved in downloads, only in my own folder.

If you rename them and try to open them what happens?
If you right click on the file and select Open With and select Paint or your web browser what happens?

Still doesn't work. I tried to upload a print screen of what the icons on the files appear like, but I don't know if you can do that on boards!

231 bytes is tiny, most likely they are only thumbnails?

So are these images ones you downloaded? If so How did you go about saving them?

Are they images you actually saved or are they temporary internet files that were automatically saved?

I guess it could have been either. I probably just pasted them to the folder I wanted. Whether the images were once online or not shouldn't matter. I wasn't like I needed to have an internet connection to view them!

Have you tried using the previous versions tab to see if you can find a working version? Kinda sounds like they are shortcuts and that the file they point to has been moved so they no longer point to the right place.

Are the icons faded out compared to other icons?

Out of curiosity have you tried copying and pasting the link the url tab into a browser?

As rest have said could be thumbnails, can you not just go to website r where ever you have images and redownload them again and make sure you save them the right format might work.

I can't actually remember by the names given. I just know that I wouldn't have saved them, unless I liked them.

So, have you a folder with all of the problem images? Try highlight one, pressing F2 and typing "image.jpg"
See if you can then open that

    do you mean kilobytes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭kodistar

Well if you don't need images and you don't remember liking them just delete them if you can't do that run malwarebytes and see if you have virus. That doesn't work do system restore.

You're right. That might have something to do with it. When they were viewable, they probably would have had a larger size
