Would spending lots of money on a diet give you the motivation to lose weight? Is the wedding not enough? ;)
Losing weight is simple, it's the will power that isn't.

Spend your hard earned money on a gym membership, personal trainer who knows nutrition and good food instead of wasting it on Mickey Mouse nutritionists/psychologists and rubbish protein bars.
At least that way you'll lose the weight correctly, probably learn valuable tools to keep the weight off and be much fitter and healthier in general.

Have not used the motivation program, I do SW and have lost two stone and is very doable and not expensive, but no matter what program you chose to lose weight, it takes a lot of motivation from within yourself to lose weight, best of luck.

    Hey!

    Congratulations on the engagement!

Sometimes the advice you get on here can be simultaneously true and unhelpful.

The reality is that solutions like Motivation and SW and WW are never the best option. The main reasons being that no good habits are truly learnt and any habits you do learn are often not healthy, weight is often gained back (despite their claims) and muscle is lost alongside fat leading to a lower lean body mass and therefore a lower metabolism and a worse state when you inevitably get back the your starting weight.

There are much easier, long lasting and more guaranteed solutions and it really doesn't have to be that hard. Losing weight doesn't have to require an iron will. A truly healthy and well constructed diet plan will leave you feeling satiated. The following advice is the simplest I can give and for most people will result in excellent results.

1 - The first thing that you need to do is figure out what your calorie intake should be. (if you respond with your weight and height ill help you out with this!)

2 - Then you need to either build a diet template around this with your chosen macro ratio (percentage of fat, protein and carbs) or subscribe to a free service like myfitnesspal to help you track your meals. Buy a food weighing scales! For the average person the macro ratio is not an essential component and definitely shouldn't be something that scares you away. You can just focus on calories and eat in a balanced fashion if you like.

3 -If you can do some exercise obviously this is going to speed things up hugely!
Weight training is an excellent option since it will prevent your lean body mass from dropping aswell as making you stronger and more flexible. Just make sure to get a good trainer to show you how! (a good trainer will also plan your diet)

Walking and Running although not near as good as weight training are still excellent pursuits and will help you a lot if done regularly.

4 -Now track your weight once a week and adjust your calories accordingly. Losing weight too fast will result in plateauing and hunger so try and settle at 1lb a week. If after 2 or 3 weeks you are losing faster than this you should up you calories by 100 a week until it is right. If you are not losing weight do the reverse. Never jump up or down 500 calories to "speed things up"

    It rarely works that way!

3 stone will take will power. The following will help:

Eat clean. Stay away from processed foods. Cut right down on bread, avoid eating white bread.

Avoid sweets and health bars. Make your own bars with easy 4 ingredient recipes. You can use a bit of dark chocolate or choc flavor creatine to get your sweet tooth fix. Usually the base of these will be oats. If you're lazy, snack on a few nuts but don't go overkill either.

Avoid fizzy drinks. Drink 1.5-2L of water a day. Cut down on sugar.

Eat whole foods (eggs, full fat dairy, veg, fruit, meat, fish)

Punch everything in MyFitnessPal and keep at ~1600-2000 cals on days you don't exercise.

How can you prescribe a calorie intake based on no stats from the OP?

The standard GDA for adults is from 2,000 - 2,500. But yes MyFitnessPal will tell you how much is required in order to lose 3 Stone.

It's not one size fits all. The total daily energy expenditure is based on OP's stats.

OP to answer your specific question, I lost 3.5 stone in about four month on Motivation. I was very disciplined though and pretty much gave up alcohol for that period. So it worked for me. Also during that time I had a prolapsed disc, so exercise was minimal at best.

It's arguably not the best for permanent weight loss, but I found it helpful (and quite easy) to reach my goal. It also suited my personality as you work within specifc parameters, so it's very easy to know when and how you slip. For me, if I did slip it was easy enough to get back on the wagon. But you have to be disciplined. There's no point spending a fortune on supplements during the week and, say, drinking a skinload over the weekend.

A close friend of mine lost over 3 stone in 6-8 months on motivation. She did really well. However, as soon as she stopped, she piled the weight back on and was back to her original size around 3 months later. So I dunno if it really does all that it claims to do in the long term.

Hi OP and congratulations on your engagement.
I used Motivation back in 2009. I lost three stone in four months. However, as other posters have noted, it does not address long term lifestyle issues and you just get told to 'take a bit of exercise'. It is expensive and includes a lot of over-priced processed supplemental 'protein' bars and products sold 'exclusively' by Motivation. You are also strongly encouraged to buy their "Motivational" workbooks and CDs so there is a sense of them looking to relieve you of money at every turn. You see the 'counsellor' on a one to one basis weekly. They changed every so often. Once I had to go to the US for work for three weeks. I stuck to the diet and lost 8.5 lbs but the counsellor ripped into me for not losing more when I returned. Another counsellor confided she lost all her weight with WW so there you have it. In a nutshell it relieves you of a lot of money that could be better spent on a lifelong change in your relationship with food and exercise.
